Trade Discount - Purchase of Insulation Options

Looking to insulate the roof as its freezing, is there any way to get discounts without a NZBN? or other options that are easy to obtain?

I have a farmsource rewards card and that's about it but never tried it at bunnings ..

Looking to get 10 rolls of this from bunnings/mitre10: https://www.bunnings.co.nz/earthwool-195-x-430-x-1160mm-7-5m…

Cheers

  • PowerPass showing $72.50 for this for me, if that helps your search.

    • Thanks that helps! so a $80 saving or so..

  • I assume you've checked if you're eligible for the EECA grant for insulation? Ours was free.

    • Yeah they changed the zoning and no longer eligible since 1st July sadly.

  • You Could try your luck at bunnings using the CSC Cash Code 25599 at bunnings. You'll have to pay upfront but a decent off on building products. Also, not sure your construction is like like I'd recommend a R7 Insulation if there is space in the roof space.Remember there should still be a min 20mm gap between insulation and roofing.

Also, if the walls and floors aren't insulated, won't make much different as walls are the largest thermal bridge.

  • Check if you are eligible for the warmwr homew grant.

And even id you aren't get sime pricing tonget it done. Its a shit job, and you'll find that it may mot actually cost that much more than materials.

Otherwise go to bunnings with thebpowerpass app and stary scanning. The discount varies wildly between products (not brands - products). From barely anything to pretty good. Invaguely remeber it was the earthwool rolls that had the biggest discount when I last looked. And do go in - the frequebtly have stuff not listed on the site, and their clearance stuff is rarely listed.

    • Thanks , not eligible since July for the grant which hurt the pockets a bit.

I thought the power pass app is no longer a thing since that Facebook group changed?

I've managed to get about 6 bucks off a roll of earth wool using SuperCard which is better than nothing. It's costing way more than the insulation grant would have been and it's the worst job ever ..

      • Still works. You just need to already have the card/be an actual property investor (both in my case).

Can be a pain in the arse to get loaded on to your phone however. It requires a few bits of info which arent publicly available (original set up email for instance) and you'll eirher need to ask, or guess. Its very guessible from memory - as it will give you "[email protected]" to work from (it ised ro be something like welcome, hello, admin, or similar - I dont remember, but you get the idea).

Im currently unable to access as I broke my phone, and you can only install on two devices (I have), and you need a higher level of access to remove the sign in online. (Also why Im making about a thousand typos - and I fixed a whole lot!)

  • Also try your local insulation company. Some of them will sell it to you for a little more than what they pay for it. Or they will have excess from previous jobs which they’ll sell for cheap.

I installed ceiling insulation in my last place and should have just got a quote with and without installation. Might have come up to the same price and saved me a day of crawling around in the ceiling space.

Currently doing underfloor and came out cheaper for company to provide and install compared to purchasing it from bunnings on trade pricing and doing it myself.
