30 Day eSIM Data Plans: 3GB for $6, 5GB for $9.50, 10GB for $15, 20GB for $25.70 (Spark 4G LTE, Up to 100/10 Mbps) @ Boring Call

260

Having lived in NZ for 15+ years, I always thought mobile data was extremely expensive and horrendously priced due to the oligopoly market dynamic. This shouldn't be the case. So I found a solution provider and wanted to see if cheaper data would be helpful for others. Pretty standard and straightforward:

  • 3GB - NZ$6.00 - 30days
  • 5GB - NZ$9.50 - 30days
  • 10GB - NZ$15.00 - 30days
  • 20GB - NZ$25.70 - 30days

You can purchase the eSIMs via this link >> here

FAQ:

  • Network coverage and speed rely on Spark 4G LTE, 50~100 mbps depending on connection quality, tested in Auckland CBD with 50 Mbps and very stable
  • These eSIMs are valid for 180 days, so top-ups can be done at the same price
  • The eSIM can be reinstalled by using the same activation QR code if accidentally deleted.
  • eSIM activation code will be send within 15 minutes after the purchase (it will be faster in the future)
  • Limited to 10 stocks for each plan right now, as I'm still testing and ironing everything out. Once fully launched and live, there should be no limit on the number of eSIM plans available.

Using a SIM from Warehouse Mobile or Noel Leeming is NZ$4~5; combined with the eSIM plans above, your monthly mobile plan would look like the below, which I believe is super competitive for those that can't afford to pay yearly for Kogan's Extra Large plan, which offers 32 GB for NZ$24.50 per month.

3GB - NZD6.33
5GB - NZD9.83
10GB - NZD15.33
20GB - NZD26.03

Hopefully this is helpful and a good bargain for those looking to reduce their monthly mobile plan cost. Looking forward to serving the CC community.

Are there any calls or SMS in the plans as wel or just pure data?

    • It’ll probably just be data, but it pairs well with a Warehouse Mobile physical sim, through that you can get the $9 plan or just be on casual rates and pay 16c per call or text. If you have to make a long phone call you can pay $4 for 200 extra minutes.

    • Hi papa1701, Just data for now. I am looking into how to provide a phone number as well. In terms of calling, my other service provides calling to landlines at 6c per minute in NZ and 18c per minute to mobile. And the credits don't expire, no apps, no downloads, just top up and pay as you go.

  • Can you track how much data there is remaining?

    • Hi ik618, Most eSIM-compatible devices would already track it natively within the phone's settings. The path is something like navigate to Settings > Network & internet > SIMs, then select the active eSIM profile. Here's a pic for your reference.

  • Certainly a good reason to get an esim phone next upgrade.

Guessing there's nothing like this for a physical sim?

    • +2

Hi fatboyj, Definitely a good reason to have eSIM compatibility for your next phone. These are very helpful for traveling as well.

I think it is a super valid and competitive offer; I compared 83 mobile plans in NZ, and I was shocked with how unfairly priced most plans are for basic human needs like staying connected. If you don't have an eSIM, I'd recommend Mighty or Rocket Mobile's unlimited monthly plan, as they seem to be the most fairly priced and the most accessible.

  • Hi, thanks for sharing this deal, would bringing your number over be an option in the near future? Cheers

    • Hi plo009, I'm looking into this! I will keep you posted if I can port numbers over.

  • Seems like a great idea @Justboringtech

As you are promoting an eSIM with only data, you need a reasonably cheap mobile provider for calls and SMS.

I don't see how you are getting the monthly mobile figures with say, Warehouse Mobile…

    • +1

      I assume it's NZD 6 (esim) + Warehouse Mobile (NZD 4 / 12 months) = NZD 6.33 / month

    • Hi strangercheapie, thanks!

Yes, dhirb is right in his calculation. Basically a cheap warehouse mobile SIM that costs NZ$4 per month + whatever eSIM data plan you need. I also provide an internet-based calling service that provides calling to landlines at 6c per minute and 18c per minute to mobile. And the credits don't expire, no downloads, no apps; you can just call directly from your phone's internet browser after topping up. I think this is the way forward. Most telcos offer unlimited minutes and texts to boost their overall package, but in reality most texts and calls are done via the internet now.

      • Wouldn’t that be $6 (eSIM) plus $4 (warehouse mobile plane) = $10 per month?

        • +2

Hi GermanKiwi, the $4 is split by 12 months because you are only keeping the physical sim alive with 1 top-up for the year.

      • Cheers.

I guess if one needs some minutes like I do, the cheapest route is 2degrees $8 monthly prepay + your $6 3GB monthly esim package.

        Interesting.

Warehouse Mobile would probably be better for the physical sim, just don’t buy the Combo, instead buy the $4 Talk Pack that gives 200 minutes

  • +1

This would be great, combined with a programmable eSIM physical SIM for GPS trackers, dashcams etc

    • Thanks, Liger Zero,

I believe there are even more robust eSIMs for GPS trackers and dashcams devices that last around 10 years. Although they do come with less data since these IoT devices usually use less compared to mobile usage. Getting those longer-duration ones would save you the trouble of having to update the settings monthly and never get caught off guard with renewals!

  • You could target the traveler market who often needs a data-only SIM. Looking at MobiMatter (a reseller) there are similar priced data only packages for NZ.

    • Thanks, zemien. As you mentioned already, there are so many travel-based eSIM providers. But I think there really aren't any affordable data plans for locals. Which, honestly, is shocking to me that something as basic as connectivity is priced up so much simply due to lack of competition. I looked at 83 mobile plans in NZ and was honestly shocked…

  • Nice little replit website, but are you just reselling via an API and if so are these just Hong Kong sim cards? If so all your traffic is routed via HK and goodness knows where else.

    • Thanks, Rhys.

Yes, it's made with Replit and will be reselling via API. This is how I think I can keep the cost down and pass along the savings as a small shop.

In terms of routing, the solution provider I found is based in Singapore and processes their data there. So it should be safer compared to Hong Kong.

  • Hi would this work with the iPad mini 7 (cellular)? It uses eSIM. Thanks in advance!

    • Hi Splatoon Fan,

I believe it should! If it doesn't work I'm happy to offer a refund after the purchase.

  • Do you think these esims would work for smart watches?

    • Hi FERRETBYTE,

My understanding is that it should work with eSIM-compatible smartwatches. However, it still depends on how and where you bought the smartwatch, and some might be restricted to carrier eSIM. If you purchase but can't load it onto your smartwatch, I'm happy to offer a refund.

      • Alright sweet, thanks for the info, I'll keep an eye out when I'm a bit closer to getting an lte watch then

Do you plan on some plans that lasts more than 30 days? A 90 or 180 day plan would be perfect for my parents.

    • Hi 36wish,

Let me look into longer-term plans. How much data would they need? Is it in the 100s range or 50s?

      • Not 36wish but would also like a long term plan, ideally one year. I currently struggle to use up the Kogan small plan of 1.5GB per month, so I don't mind a small data cap (as long as it's cheap!).

      • Something like 3GB for 3 months would be perfect.

    • Three Hong Kong do esim plans that last for 12 months

      • But then will have to route data through Hong Kong ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  • Working for me. 48Mb down and 2.2 up in Waikato region.

How long can you safely wait before activating the eSim, by the way?

    • +1

      Thanks, Sven.

If I understand your question correctly and you are asking how long it can sit idle before activation, the amount of time should be 149 days. The eSIM itself lasts 180 days, so you'd want to activate the eSIM before you hit 150 days.

  • But if you say bought a Kogan plan you get pretty similar data for similar prices plus you get all the calling and SMS benefits. They are doing 15gb for 31 days for $25 which is a little less data but not that much but as I said you can have a phone number and unlimited calls, sms and to AU as well as well as wifi calling and other stuff.

But If you buy the Kogan Buy one Get one when its out - 2x 165 per year for 15gb a month plus all the other stuff - that's only $13 a month for 15gb of data which is cheaper than listed here

Mighty Mobile is doing unlimited data currently for $23 a month (locked at 10mb speed thou) but still pretty cheap.

Dont really agree with the statement data is outrageous, there are lots of cheap options.

Sure this is an also option that might suit some, but its nothing amazing. Seems more like an advert.

    • I think the higher data amounts are easier with Kogan, yeah, agree there.

This does make sense though if you have low data needs, like 3GB a month, then you pay $6 a month here, and can also get a Warehouse Mobile Sim and just pay 16c per call minute or text, or buy a $4 talk pack (200 minutes) when you need to make a long (non-WiFi) phone call. That way you can probably get the overall price down to like $8 per month overall, I can’t see any NZ based provider beating that.

‘Three Hong Kong’ do a cheaper annual plan for esim data, that works out to be like 3GB per month for just under $5, but then you have to route your data through Hong Kong/China. Some people probably wouldn’t care about that though.

      • Kogan do a 1.5gb a month plan for $13 incl calling etc and not all the mucking around with buying a new esim every month etc.

In the past (not this year I think) they have done that also on the Buy One Get One - so $6.50 a month - I bought it for a phone I left in my boat in those years and it was great.

But your really down to real cheap here - very little else I can think of the prices have gone down and stayed down like this stuff. In the past a SMS cost you 20c.

  • What happens if you go over? Does the data just stop automatically or would you be charged extra?

    • It'll stop automatically!

  • -1

I believe the data is only available to be used while in NZ, is it right?

    • Yes. I have yet to offer travel eSIMs, that's on the roadmap!

  • Hi, I have bought an eSIM this morning. The instructions say I receive an email in 15 mins. Only received receipt from Stripe. No esim details yet.

    • Hi Suneel, apologies for the delay and I think some emails are arriving in the spam folder, you should have the eSIM now.

  • Hi tried purchasing a 3gb plan but it says out of stock? However still showing 10 available online?
