Current Coffee Bean Recommendations?

Hello Cheapie Nation!

Looking for current thinking on Coffee Beans - Where have people been ordering from, what have people been enjoying, and are there any bargains people have found?

I have just finished my second 1KG bag of The Warehouse Market Beans which has done the job but I'm now thinking of something a little higher end! Previously used Allpress due to their collab with Cure Parkinsons (although this has ended unfortunately).

Appreciate your thoughts & comments.

Thanks!

  • Are you in Auckland?

Workplace have been buying Costco Coffee beans and seemed alright. Giancarlo coffee beans around $22-25 for 1 kg bag depending if it's on sale or not

  • +1

I quite like Raglan Roast, Flight Coffee's Memphis blend, and Altura Coffee's Supreme blend.

Raglan Roast is the go-to at the moment. Previous was Flight Coffee but I couldn't get behind how long it was taking for product to arrive at my door from the time of order. Everywhere else is usually next day, Flight coffee was 2-3 days

  • I get Flight Coffee Thunderbolt - it usually gets delivered in 1-2 days from Wellington to Auckland and its always freshly roasted

  • I usually buy Chicco D’oro Premium Blend Coffee Beans from Pak and Save, they are $20.69 for a 1kg. I’ve tried more expensive coffee beans, but I still prefer these one. It’s a bit less dry than other coffee I’ve tried, however it’s is somewhat bitter, still gets the job done though.

  • Super picky coffee drinker here.
If it has to be from the grocery store, I only go with Supreme. They're one of the few that actually include the roast date, which makes a massive difference -you want beans roasted no more than two weeks ago.

If you’re buying from a roaster, I’ve found that Atomic produces the best results on a nonprofessional machine (under $1000).
For something more affordable, Flight is a solid choice. They consistently have good deals, and their coffee never disappoints in taste.

  • Common Ground in Dunedin roast some great beans and are reasonably priced with a few blend options to choose from.

+1 for Raglan Roast. Ive been using Brown Lightning. $26 /500gm or $49/Kg delivered (free shipping over $20) If you order before 12, they do next day shipping.
Slightly cheaper than Flight, but saves me navigating machine changes when ever I swap beans out.

  • Supreme or Havanna from Pak n Sav are the two I regularly buy. I think they are delicious.

  • Nothing beats Escape Coffee Roasters in New Plymouth :-)

  • If you are in Wellington Black coffee Newtown sells in-house roast Raven which is little darker than the medium roast Colt

They are roasted in Kapiti and the Colt blend can be had from supermarkets https://darkhorsecoffee.co.nz/pages/locations

Goes great in Mokapot as well as espresso especially if you like with Milk

Also Havana beans are consistently on sale at PN or New Worlds ~$6.00 - $7.00 200g

  • Just remember the Warehouse ones are Roasted in Wellington by Havana, so they really aint that bad.

However they have skyrocketed in price, I am sure they were $20 and now they are almost $30.

Raglan Roast is my current pick for espresso.
If I'm buying from the supermarket, I usually go for Supreme or C1, as they include roast dates.
I’ve found it difficult to find TWH beans with a recent roast date (going off a 12-month best-before date), and once they're old, they’re not that great.

  • I've tried dozens of brands and different types in those brands. I keep coming back to Mighty by L'affare, which is their dark roasted offering. I get the 1kg bag of their web site which has "free" postage.

  • i got some coffee from amazon australia , kind of like this one Lavazza, Qualità Rossa, 1 Kg it was around 28 ish nzd including shipping right now its over 56 nzd not sure why
