6 months or so ago Gamepass became so good that both my Playstation and Switch are just collecting dust.

    • I don't own an xbox got a ps5 but what do you pay a year and what makes it that much better than ps+?

I do recall my buddy playing Doom in May so I'm guessing you get a good number of recent releases for free?

RRP isn't cheap but a lot of the really good hacks to get it are gone now. I think you can still buy game pass core and convert it to ultimate at a reduced ratio of 2 months core gets 1 month of ultimate to bring the costs down, but it depends what you can find core codes priced at and if you are open to region hopping. There has been 12 months Indian codes for sound $45 which would mean 6 months ultimate for that price. I also sustain mine using microso5reward points, so I have 3 years already on my plan, vouchers ready to go to extend that until December 2028 and at current rates enough points for another 4 months after that. I paid $150 5 years ago and haven't spent a cent on it since.

Game wise all Xbox first party titles are there on the ultimate tier the day they release. So if you want Indiana Jones, gears of war, halo, forza or anything else Microsoft is putting out it's all covered. They also get a decent selection of third party games in there too. Personal opinion is now I have it I very rarely buy games unless they are for my switch.

        • Yea this is the route consoles are going, next console iterations wont have a disc drive, discs will be gone all games digital and getting day 1 releases at no cost except the subs.

        • Is there anywhere I can buy core for PC cheap?

          • @Vic: I just bought 12 month core from JB Hi-Fi for $109. About to hit enough points in MS Rewards for a 1 month Ultimate. So will convert the Core to Ultimate which ends up 7 months Ultimate for $109 = $15.57 a month.

Not as cheap as the old methods but almost half price compared to the $28.95 Ultimate normal price.

You can get slightly cheaper Core keys through Eneba etc but the price difference wasn't so great so I just stayed with JB Hi-Fi.

            • @tukapa: That's quite cheap, is it PC gamepass or only Xbox? I've always checked eneba but it's way more expensive for PC game pass there.

              • @Vic: Game Pass Ultimate includes both console and PC Game Pass. Hit my Microsoft points this morning so redeemed the Core code first and confirmed active 12 month Core subscription. Then redeemed the free month of Ultimate and accepted the conversion terms from Core to Ultimate. Ended up with 7 months Ultimate that we can use on either the console or the PC.

Your current sub must have expired for the conversion to work, so if you still have time to go on an existing sub you will have to wait until it expires.

If you don't have Microsoft points you can just buy a month of Ultimate (from Eneba or similar if you want it a bit cheaper) or other online store and it will also convert after you have redeemed your Core sub. That just adds ~$4 to the monthly cost over 7 months so around $19.70 a month.

                • @tukapa: Is there a cheaper way to get PC gamepass only? I won't be using it on an Xbox so I'm looking for any deals under $16.

                  • @Vic: Not that I'm aware of. I found PC Game Pass hard to find any decent deals in. I looked at all the options out there that let you convert to Ultimate.

@Everettpsycho Unfortunately region hopping for the best deals isn't a thing anymore. Microsoft started region locking all their stores around Aug/Sep last year and now you just get region mismatch errors whenever you try to complete a transaction for a store that isn't in the same country where your console is physically located, and that includes redeeming gift cards and game codes. As of right now no one has worked out a way to circumvent the blocking

        • Codes from India don't work anymore even with VPN to India. Became aware of Rewards recently but it seems they are not worth the time anymore. Core to Ultimate conversion is 3:2 so again not as great as before

          • @melp: Damn didn't realise they'd stopped the VPN, glad I don't buy games anymore now and backed up my points.

Rewards has taken a real bad hit here, they are trialing a new thing and it's ruined most people's points tally. We can get 2100 points a month for bing searches but it took away 90 daily points, problem is most months everyone only getting 15 points so nowhere near what it used to be.

If you have more than one user in your house you can get points racking up to pay for GPU on each account and then cashing in you get a code that can be redeemed on any account. Risk there is, despite being allowed to have family accounts like that, we had one account suspended from the rewards program.

Its great but i miss the days of getting a year for 60 or so bucks using tricks, from this site i think.

    • Same thing for me with the Switch. 'Bought' a Series S almost 18 months ago with 95% survey earned money (included a 3 month game pass sub and I'm still going without having paid for GP! Far too many games always coming out to get back into the Switch for too long.

“ new Xbox Game Pass members only.”

Guess I will have to make a new account. Wish it included returning user

    • worked for me as a returning user… I had a core sub that expired in May
