Still No Way to Join Meridian 4 Hours Free Plan?

I've been waiting to join since right after they stopped taking new customers. The webpage is still showing me the same thing and I can't find any way to join on the website. I reckon I could get to 50% free usage too and that would save me over $40 a month.

  • Look at Contact Energy, Good Nights plan free power Mon-Fri 9pm to midnight. Or Good Weekend plan free power Sat/Sun 9am to 5 pm. Low user rate : Daily fixed $1.50 .40 kWh.

    • Yes I have, I'm currently on the contact energy good weekends plan.

Good night's plan would require 46% in the free hours just to break even with my current plan. Meridian only needs 29.6% before I start saving money.

  • Same boat, wanted to join right after they closed it.

Currently with Flick who just got purchased by Meridian. When they switch us over will be asking Meridian to let us on the 4 hours free plan, or I'll have to leave to join Contact on their 3 hours free plan.

Doubt it'll work but worth a shot.

I just missed this as well. I contacted Meridian about this a while ago and they said the plan is no longer available to anyone and even existing customers who move house won't be able to continue on this plan.

  • Noticed my smart charging wasn't working. They emailed and said the smart charging is now removed from the plan. I got no comms about this. Might have to buy a dedicated EV charger so I can abuse the 4 hours of free charging vs the 15A plug. Otherwise perhaps Contact Energy…

Might not be worth it if your current charger is enough for the kms you do. The cost of installing a wall box can buy quite a lot of electricity. Even 4 hours of charging a day should be enough for most people, roughly 60kms a day is over 20k a year. But I don't own a EV so I'm just guessing.

      • 4 hours of charging at 15A should be enough. If I can get a good deal on a 32A charger, I'll install it myself and get my sparky mate to connect to switchboard with RCBO.

But then again, who knows when they'll completely discontinue this plan. That would leave contact with the only option which have significantly higher rates.
