The Heritage Food Crops Research Trust is giving away free golden/orange tomato seeds and heirloom bean seeds as part of a wellbeing initiative for all New Zealanders.

Your only cost? A stamped, self-addressed envelope or padded bag!


Golden/Orange Tomato Seeds

Tomato seeds should be planted indoors in September, ready for transplanting outside once frost risk is gone.

To receive 5 packets of our best tomato seed varieties, please send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to:

Heirloom Bean Seeds

Includes both Common and Runner beans. These are best sown outdoors in October–November, after frost has passed.

To request some of our best bean varieties, send a stamped, self-addressed padded bag. You may also include:

  • Preferences (e.g., green or dry beans)
  • Names of any specific varieties you'd like

  • If you are interested in this kind of thing theres NZ seed saving groups on FB you can join and share or purchase for a small fee. Nice to get some options you never see sold commercially.
