Post here if you qualitatively know of any good deals and recommend validating the listed prices before impulse buying, large discount != good price

First thing I searched for was Sake, and they have one advertised at $34.99 discounted to $25.43.
    https://www.vineonline.co.nz/gekkeikan-sake-720ml-111120/p

Yet "Whisky and More" has it for sale at a normal price of $25.99:
    https://www.whiskyandmore.co.nz/products/sake-gekkeikan-720m…

Meanwhile a dozen Heineken is $39.99 down to $26.73, the latter of which is really just normal sale price for Heineken at the supermarket.

    Nothing good on beer.

  • +4

Yeah. I was like this is a closing down sale? No wonder they're going out of business as its easier and apparently cheaper just to pick up a bottle or box at the supermarket with your groceries.

  • +3

None of this is particularly well priced.

    • Some reasonable discounts on spirits compared to other retailers, but nothing super exciting.

  • +1

Bad price for bad beer - no wonder they're closing down. Anyway, OP advised the beer prices were not good.

Other stuff, like whisky, is about 20% discount. Not bad, but very far from being "clearance price".

Anyway, thanks for your first post, OP!

    How much is shipping?

  • +1

There are some sharp wine deals. But also a lot at regular prices. My pics:

    Sparkling shiraz(vineonline.co.nz)
    Stump Jump GSM(vineonline.co.nz)

  • I got 36 bottles of wine for 227.4 shipped or ~$6.32 each, given even the cheapest supermarket stuff is about $8/bottle that's not bad.

    • How much is shipping?

    • +1

Yeah it's pretty much as low as they can legally sell it, theres law around beer/wine discounting that it can't be more than 25%(or give the buyer that impression) off normal retail pricing.

      • I'm pretty sure that the law related to that is about advertising it at a price more than 25% discount. They can sell it for whatever price they want.

      • +1

Not quite. You are allowed to discount alcohol as much as you want (as long as it isnt free). Its just that you cannot advertise the fact you are doing that and that discount cannot be seen from outside the premises.

        • that's an interesting law, why can't they advertise a large discount?

        • So would notifying customers of a closing down sale at clearance prices break such rules? It certainly implies heavily discounted pricing in such a situation.

          • @Dunno: The exact wording of that law is the following.
            Irresponsible Promotion of Alcohol

            (1) A person commits an offense if, in the course of carrying on a business, that person:

            (a) does anything that encourages people, or is likely to encourage people, to consume alcohol to an excessive extent, whether on licensed premises or at any other place; or
            (b) promotes or advertises discounts on alcohol in a way that leads people, or is likely to lead people, to believe that the price is 25% or more below the price at which the alcohol is ordinarily sold (otherwise than:
            (i) on licensed premises; or
(ii) in the catalogue or similar price-list of the holder of an off-licence endorsed under section 40); or
            (c) holds or has on licensed premises a promotion or advertisement of discounts on alcohol that:
            (i) leads people, or is likely to lead people, to believe that the price is 25% or more below the price at which the alcohol is ordinarily sold; and
(ii) can be seen (or, in the case of an audible promotion or advertisement, heard) from outside the premises; or
            (d) promotes or advertises alcohol that is free of charge (otherwise than:
            (i) by promoting or advertising the complimentary sampling of alcohol for consumption on premises for which an off-licence is held; or
(ii) by a promotion or advertisement within licensed premises that cannot be seen (or, in the case of an audible promotion or advertisement, heard) from outside the premises); or
            (e) offers (otherwise than by means of an offer made only on licensed premises, and made only in relation to the buying of alcohol on those premises) any goods or services, or the opportunity to obtain any goods or services, or the opportunity to win a prize, on the condition that alcohol is bought; or
            (f) promotes or advertises alcohol in a manner aimed at, or that has, or is likely to have, special appeal to, minors.

            (2) Subsection (1)(e) does not apply to a loyalty programme that provides rewards or discounts, unless the rewards or discounts apply only or primarily to alcohol.

            (3) A person who commits an offense against this section is liable on conviction:

            (a) in the case of a licensee, to either or both of the following:
            (i) a fine of not more than $10,000:
(ii) the suspension of the licensee's licence for a period of not more than 7 days:
            (b) in the case of any other person, to a fine of not more than $10,000.

Theres a 10% off code mentioned in the low quantity thread.

    • "low quality thread"?

      • It's definitely not a low quality thread.

    • Do you know what's the code is?

  • +1

Excellent stuff, ordered 24 bottles with the code above for 160 all up. July will not be a dry month.

  • Jim Barry Cabernet Malbec(vineonline.co.nz)

This is a reasonable deal if you're a red drinker, 4 year old Clare Valley cab/malbec.

  • Just bought 5 x bottles delivered for 80

  • Anyone received their order yet?

    • +1

Not yet, still says "Handling order"

    • Reached out to them to check whats up as they were probably slammed by orders lol

      Just heard back this morning

Thank you so much for supporting us in placing an order after hearing we are closing down.

The support and kindness has been overwhelming! So much so that we have had so many orders our warehouse team are now completely snowed under.

We are working as quickly as possible to get all orders out the door as soon as we can but please be aware we are currently experiencing a 7-14 working day delay on dispatch. This will mean you might have to sit tight and wait a little while for your order to arrive.  Once picked up and scanned by our couriers, a dispatch email will be sent to you.

We know this is not ideal and appreciate your patience and kindness while we work through the backlog. I can't guarantee the delivery date of your order at the moment I'm afraid.

Once your order has been picked, you will receive an automated email with a tracking reference for tracking your order within the network.

If your order has not been received within 20 working days of it being placed, please reach out to us again.

Thank you for your kindness and support over the years!

      • Finally got a tracking number today.

        • Likewise.

  • Still not got my tracking number, but for anyone stressed about potentially being ripped off.. I did some digging, Vineonline is (was?) just a division of Woolworths according to the companies office records.

  • +2

Placed an order for 5 x Riddoch Pastoralist Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 on 11/06. Paid $89.80. Checked the price history the next day and realised the deal was not that good. Woolworth has it for $16 from time to time, https://www.woolworths.co.nz/shop/productdetails?stockcode=7… ). Sent them a message to cancel the order and they confirmed that. Received the credit card refund in the next few days. But a box of wine was delivered to my front door this morning. Thanks for the free wine!

  • Got my 7 boxes beers yesterday, they are have the best before date 11 August 25.

I emailed them, here is their reply "All orders placed on the site are as is due to the closure sale which is at cost +GST. Our T's&C's state all sales are final and no refunds, returns or exchanges are able to be processed I'm sorry."

I am not happy with the response but since they changed their T&C, there is not much I can do about it. So if you are ordering anything, keep this in mind.
