Deep fryer suggestions

I know air fryers are popular but I'm wanting to deep fry battered fish and I can't seem to find anything decent.
I'm wondering if I might be better just to fill a stockpot with oil and heat it on the stove with a thermometer.
Any suggestions please?

  • Haven't done it for many years, but you don't need to fill a 'stock pot' - you only need enough to cover the battered fish, and do them a couple at a time, then keep them warm.

They only take a couple of mins each to cook.

    • But you did it on the stove rather than a deep fryer appliance?

      • Yep - just in a 'stock pot' (any large pot is fine - there is nothing special about what people refer to as 'stock pots')

I do more deep-frying than I should so I can kind of help πŸ˜‚

You can absolutely do it on the stove top but you'll have much better luck with something like a Dutch oven as it retains a lot more heat giving you better heat control.

If you're only planning on doing it as a one-off I would do it on the stove top. A deep fryer is a bit of a hassle to own and isn't worth it if you're not using it fairly frequently IMO.

  • Thanks, I think I'll go with the stove option πŸ‘

  • There are really cheap deep fryers at Kmart that work well enough but I don’t recommend another appliance. A pan, wok, large pot or Dutch oven should work
