Free 30 Day Trial of One NZ Satellite (Non-One NZ Customers Only; Eligible Apple, Samsung & OPPO Phones Only) @ One NZ

120

Not sure if its a deal or forum topic, and pretty sure it hasn't been posted earlier (apologies if it has).
Anyway, popped up in my Facebook feed

"You’re invited to trial One New Zealand Satellite free, for 30 days! Whether you’re travelling through a black spot, a back paddock, or there’s a blackout, you can TXT when you need it most with an eligible phone. No strings attached…

  1. Sign up in a few minutes
If you have an eligible phone and are on another mobile network, you can sign up for your free trial.
  2. Launch your eSIM
To connect to the One NZ Satellite network, we’ll email you an eSIM to install and activate on your phone. This is a digital SIM that works alongside your existing SIM and lasts the duration of your trial.
  3. TXT when you need it most
If you're using iMessage or RCS for messages, your phone will automatically use the One NZ Satellite network when you don't have traditional cell-tower coverage. Otherwise, you'll need to switch to your One NZ eSIM to send a TXT when you don't have traditional cell-tower coverage…"

To be eligible for the One NZ Satellite Free Trial:

  • You must have an eligible Satellite Ready, eSIM capable phone.
  • You must not be a current One NZ mobile customer (however if you only have One NZ Broadband then you are eligible).
  • You must have an active connection with another provider.

  • What if you are a ONE customer?

Then you’ve already been able to use it as long as you have an eligible device

    This note is interesting:

    1. One NZ Satellite Invite will provide you with unlimited max speed data to use during your trial period. For calling and for text messages over the traditional cell tower network, you will use your allocation from your usual mobile network provider.

That might be more than enticing for some cheapies

Also, does anyone know if you can have 2x Physical SIMs AND an eSim?

On my S24 ultra I can only have 2 active cards at the same time. Just needed to switch it in the settings when I needed which one.

Sure enough it does include data, amazing! I don’t get reception from Spark at my house but I do with this trial!

      • What kinda speed you getting (and on what phone)

        • 83 down/5.28 up (MB/s)
          iPhone 16 Pro

          • @phillq: Is it continuous or does it come and go (reading the text message instructions sounds like it comes and goes for that, have to wait for a satellite to go over)

    • +1

no, you can only have 2 active sims at the same time. You can however choose the combination. I.e. 2 physical, or 2 e-sims, or 1 e-sim and 1 physical

    • That’s interesting, because the regular satellite service for customers only supports TXT (and iMessage/RCS messaging)

      • Yes, but for normal mobile data, you will be using One NZ's for the trial.

So tested this at work in the middle of a forest and am getting roughly 26 down 1 up

With my main sim 2 degrees 13 down 1 up

Pretty happy with it considering I'm in the middle of a forest with no clear view of the sky.
