Chennai, India Return Ex Hamilton $967, Auckland $1033, Christchurch $1059, Wellington $1240 (Combining Airlines) @ BTF

150

This is the result of a theory I had. The Jetstar Australia birthday sale included flights across the Tasman from NZ$330 return, and at the same time, Scoot has cheap flights to Asia.

So I looked at Chennai, one of the larger Indian cities that Scoot flies to (I spent several hours in the airport once), and for flights across the Tasman that could be combined to get cheap flights to India!

Naturally these are probably pretty limited, as the various fare buckets could sell out at any time.

Summary (accurate at time of posting):
Auckland to Chennai (15 May - 20 Sep) from $1033 return
Hamilton to Chennai (15 May - 20 Sep) from $967 return

Chennai is a long way from the border with Pakistan, but at least be aware of current events before booking

    • Thanks, you too.

    • 18hours wait in SIngapore, 7 hours in Sydney. Naakku thallidum. plus need to pay for checkin luggage on top of the price.

  • it always will still be a bother to me, with how difficult it is for foreigners to get a local sim card

    • When I was there 2 years ago, I got a sim card at the airport (Kochi), it was ~NZD 10 for several GB. I just needed to show my passport, took maybe 15 minutes.

      • wow, that's changed. 8 years ago I was doing the Rickshaw race and we couldn't get any - the organisers lent each team a dumbphone with a sim in it for emergency texting only!
