    Says peak power 500w

Couldn't find the speed limit, but the AU model has only 25kph
    https://www.pedl.com.au/products/ncm-aspen-plus-fat-electric…

    • Yeah, hence over the limit making this bike illegal.

  • Please note that these are not road legal.

Road bikes in NZ can not exceed 300w —> https://www.nzta.govt.nz/vehicles/vehicle-types/low-powered-…

These bikes are up to up to 750W Peak Motor Power

Honestly most ebikes are probably illegal in NZ, have a look at any of the big bike brands and you'll notice they don't advertise the wattage only the torgue. Ive got a Giant Reign e+ and there is no way the motor is a max of 250w.

Hmm so not road legal, but the description on the website says "perfect for rolling through the city". Can't ride them on the footpath, so… would say there's some false advertising going on.

  • Cant help but laugh at irony of leon advertising on here after not honouring the deal that was posted last year for one of their ebikes.

  • So apparently NZ Wattage laws are a greyer area then you would expect.

Its based on "maximum" power. But i don't think a single ebike in the entire market actually meets that criteria. If it did then there is absolutely no way in here you are pulling 80NM torque from 300 W max power.

So… Its almost certainly fine. Don't ride at 60km/h like a moron and no one would care. The courts cant even be bothered going after ebikes and scooters with more power then your average moped so your 300 watt - 750w peak power mountain bike wont even raise an eyebrow.

  • Anyone else wonder if there are a more than a few people riding these who missed their primary school science class about friction?

A fat wheel is the last thing you want on a road going, electric (or any) bike.

    • On an ebike it doesnt matter that much, Its probably more comfortable at 30-40 km/h but would reduce range and be hard to pedal.
