Good timing for a new phone given iPhone don’t go on sale often! Is my understanding correct that the benefit is ~$190 for the Purple Visa (after taking into consideration the $55 establishment fee & annual fee, assuming it’s paid off with the interest free period)?

Anyone know how long it takes them to approve an application too? Given there’s ~3 business days till expiry.

    • The terms on their site suggest the annual fee is not charged until you've had the card for a year.

I'm not sure about application times these days, but when I worked for a big box store customers were able to apply for a Q Card at checkout and most applications came back within a few minutes.

      • That's a nice win. I wasn't bothered with all the fees to think about but knowing the annual fee is after the first year that makes it more tempting.

As a follow-up: I signed up for Purple Visa today, around 2pm. Within 20 seconds I'd been granted conditional approval, but needed to submit photos of my license. An hour later I got an email asking for either my latest bank statement, or my 3 previous payslips. After submitting that I didn't hear anything, so a couple of hours later I called customer support and they manually approved it over the phone.

As soon as you're approved you can make your purchase through the NL website—you don't need to wait for the physical card to arrive. Customer support told me that purchasing online still makes you eligible for the deal, although I'm going to call in a few days just to confirm it tracked properly.

I can also confirm that through Purple Visa the only fee you pay when signing up is the $55 establishment fee. Be careful with the credit limit you choose during the application process though, because the fee is automatically taken out of the card's balance, so make sure you choose a credit limit that will cover the purchase and the $55 fee.

If you think you'll take longer than 6 months to pay it off, don't choose the Gem Visa card, because they charge the annual fee in half-yearly installments, so you'll get slugged with a $32.50 charge in 6mo times. Whereas with Purple Visa if you close the account before the 1 year mark you'll avoid the $55 annual fee.

      • What do I need to do to make a purchase without the physical card? (I'm dumb…)I assume the card won't arrive for a while and the promo period ends in a couple of days

When paying with purple visa it just wanted my customer number and date of birth to put through the transaction. The customer number is on the approval email they send you.

          • @Everettpsycho: Ah cool, thanks! Didn't realise there was a seperate option in the drop down for the Purple visa

      • Let me know how you go in a few days calling the store to confirm. I just did my order and there is no mention of the promo on any of the emails/invoice so I also want to make sure I’m good to go on my end.

        • I had the same concern after pre-ordering a Switch 2, especially as my balance on the card has dropped but there was no transaction showing on the card.

I called Purple on Friday evening and they said that Noel Leemings sometimes puts a hold on the funds when you place your order, and they only charge the card when you receive the item. So I called Noels and they said that my purchase was tracked and the promo will apply even though the card won't be charged for 2 months.

So long as you have receipts you can prove your eligibility for the offer if it fails to come through, but you might want to call NL just to confirm it's being tracked properly on their end.

          • @dankd: Oh thanks bro!

I called purple visa and they were useless and said no way to track until after 90 days.
I’ll call Noel tomorrow and get it confirmed.

Costs $120 to apply. Still a 180 saving on the switch.

Just be aware of the credit rating implications.
If you are want a mortgage, loan, any other credit in the next months, this would negatively effect your application.

  • +8

Keep in mind that the $300 is applied as a credit to your balance 90 days after purchase, so if your plan is to use this as a discount on a single purchase, don't pay it off early; make sure there is at least $300 still owing until it gets applied.

  • Wish "Gaming product(s)" was properly defined. I can't confirm if that includes the odyssey gaming monitors.

    • Definitely isn't. Figured out the filter for it.

  • There's also a bonus gift card offer going on

So, there are some products you could stack,eg:
    eg: https://www.noelleeming.co.nz/p/acer-nitro-v-15.6-inch-fhd-a…

    • Wow, how typical of Noel Leeming to drop the price of that laptop by $250 the same day the $250 gift card promotion ends.

      • They increased the price of Xbox too! Trying to get a price match post purchase as I forgot to apply the code but no response so far.

  • Will this work for buying a PS5?

    • +1

      Yes

    • Got a PS5 for $619 minus the establishment fee and annual fee.

      • Which one did you get?

        • The Astro bot. That was last week ago. No one was posted it here on cheapies back then.

Seems like a lot of faff signing up and going in store, id, payslips, etc they should be paying me $110 (establishment and annual fee) to sign up instead of the other way around 😂

    • I did mine all online including the purchase, so that's an option if you don't wanna go in store. The $55 fee is the only one you pay when signing up, and the annual fee isn't charged until after the first year so I plan on closing my account before then.

30 minutes of my time for a $245 discount on a Switch 2 is hard to say no to, especially when I already had a full-priced pre-order at EB.

      • Posted earlier but do you think I'd be able to use a gift card during the purchase and still get the cashback?

        • Not 100%, but I think so? The checkout page lets you apply a gift card separately to choosing a payment method, so it looks like you can use the gift card and then use the purple or gem card for the remainder. You'd still need to pay for at least $500 with the card to get the promo, though.

Maybe give gem or purple a call as they'll be able to confirm.

      • Are you doing store pick up? It says wheb ordering it'll be ready 8/6 but id rsther have it in 5/6 wueb the thing actually releases if im going to order it.

        • +1

The noel leeming Facebook page has a post from April 3rd announcing preorders, and they responded to a comment yesterday stating that the release date of 08/06 on the page is incorrect and the release is "definitely" the 5th.

          • @dankd: Thabks, its only click and collect that jt says it so figured its calculating shipping tk store from 5/6 but in reality yhey will be at the store for thay date.

Waiting for gem to come back to me to pick it up.

  • I've gone through the process for the Purple VISA, its sent a form asking for bank statements via Finance Now asking for bank username and password?? Surely this is against most banks T&Cs. Anyone know how to send the statements directly to them instead?
Edit: Just had to ring them and request to do it via email instead

    • Its confusing, when you upload the id you can also add bank statements and payslips, they then pushed back as my bank statement is over 30 days old bht i only get them quarterly sk ive offered a transaction list that they then sakd isnt a bank statement.

I've just called them and explained and they are reviewing the documents together i stead of separate now. They alsk said you can email it to them if youre happy with unencrypted.

Definitely not giving them my bank log in though and as a financial institution they should know better than to ask for that.

    • +1

Can confirm now for sure uploading where it asks for your driving license works as they definitely had all my documents when approving the application. Its really unclear as it asls for all your documents then only asks for your ID on the web page.

Maybe respond to one of their emails once you've done it to make sure theres something in progress in their system to look at your application.

    • They noth have the deal under the items photos so om assuming based on thay theh are valid.

  • Does anyone know if we can combine with the CSC discount and still receive the promo?

  • Does anyone know if I chose 6 months rather than 12 month to pay off. Am I still eligible for the $300 credits? I am not sure because the advertising wording says 12 months. Cheers.

    • Based on the wording, I don't think so unfortunately.

    Hey everyone,

Just wondering if anyone else had the same experience as me with the Noel Leeming $300 cashback promotion.

The deal says you get $300 back when you spend $500+ on smartphones, gaming, protection or tech services, using 12 months interest free with a new Purple or Gem Visa.

I met all the conditions — I’m a new customer, spent over $500 on eligible items, used the right credit card — but chose the 6 months interest free option instead of 12 months, and was later told I no longer qualify for the $300 credit.

Nowhere in the checkout process did it clearly say that picking anything other than 12 months would disqualify me from the cashback. The fine print is buried in the T&Cs, but isn’t this misleading?

Feels like a bit of a word game to avoid honouring the deal.

Has anyone else run into this? Did you manage to get it resolved?

    Thanks in advance!

The deal clearly says "on a 12 months interest free".

I don't know how that can be any clearer.

"Nowhere in the checkout process did it clearly say that picking anything other than 12 months would disqualify me from the cashback."

      This is a flawed argument.

This is like saying no where does it say that picking a store anywhere other than Noel leeming would disqualify me for the cashback.

    • Sorry for taking so long in replying to your thread - I hope you haven't cancelled your order, because you might have some grounds to argue that the T&Cs were misleading (you may wish to bring in Section 9 of the Fair Trading Act).

The original wording on the deal itself said "with 12 months interest free" but in the context of the whole offer, it seems as though this is more of an element of the offer itself, rather than a prerequisite

Even Noel Leeming themselves changed the wording in subsequent offers. They may have deemed it to be too ambiguous - which it was. Instead of saying "with 12 months interest free" it changed to "when you apply and spend on 12 months interest free" - but on the first offer, it used the wording of "with"

I compared this to wording on the PB Tech $300 spend offer, and by contrast they were very clear about what the requirements were - 1. Opening a Purple Visa Account, 2. Spending more than $500 on tech, 3. Spending on 12 months interest free. This wasn't here on the first offer.

Because you could reasonably interpret that wording of "with" as an element of the offer, rather than a prerequisite - the legal principle of contra proferentem applies here - the interpretation goes against the drafter. Noel Leeming, as a large corporation with decades of experience and lawyers on hand should realistically make their wording clearer.

I have records of PB Tech's wording, and the original wording of the offer on hand if you needed.

Please do your own research on the above and form your own opinion - but I believe that the phrasing of the T&Cs might be confusing. Keep this forum updated,

      All the best

(Note: here is the wording of the PB Tech offer. You can see that they breakdown the requirements so it is much clearer what you need to do, rather than phrasing it as "With 12 months interest free": https://www.pbtech.co.nz/fileslib/_20250417094138_PVC-Acquis…)

The original T&Cs are missing from their page, likely as it has been some time - but I have a record of them if you can send me a message (or reply to this thread).
