I have this for years, but it has mostly been collecting dust. When watching YouTube, fast-forwarding or rewinding causes the audio and video to go out of sync, which never happened on my Bose flex. Siri is also not very useful and keeps sending website results to my phone. Its only current function is to act as a home hub.

    :(

However, if I discover its true potential, I’d definitely buy another one to make them a pair. Really good price. Thanks OP

Yeah I bought one too, and dang, they are…not good.

I also tried using it as a connected speaker and found the audio delay unbearable. Sold it and replaced it with one of the Echo models, which does not have an audio delay, and I have been sucessfully using it for almsot a year now. Seems to be an issue with how the homepod handles bluetooth.

And same issue - nearly every question you ask is rerouted to iPhone - seriously - if I wanted to use my phone and had my hands free, I would have!

      The least useful smart speaker.

      • Internet-enabled speakers are best without Bluetooth. Just use Apple Music to stream directly from the internet.

I have a pair. Was doubly disappointed.

Aimed to use as a stero pair with my macbook pro connected to an ultrawide monitor. The sync-delay is awful.

Also tried two Amazon Echo models, each connected with a 3.5mm stereo audio splitter cable from the headphone port…. but that still has issues, even they go out of sync or unbalanced and require power cycling (often seeral times) to get right agiain.

I have it too - IMO it probably has potential for nothing in the future - new version with a screen is coming next year according to some apple news.

They make great HomeKit door chimes! I use one next to my bed too for ambient music while sleeping.

They're fantastic in stereo & paired with a newer Apple TV (also using eARC audio out from the TV).

  • I have 3 at home. Sound quality is good comparing to the price especially when you play on them at same time. Disappointing at:
    1. Voice recognition is bad. Often ask who is speaking.
    2. It won’t work outside of your network. Like sometimes I would like to take it out to a picnic and use a powerbank supplying power. But it won’t work as a Bluetooth speaker.

  • Sounds like many people who own it don’t like it that much. Anyone is keen to sell theirs with a budgeted price? I’d be interested. I’m based in Auckland.

  • I have had one for 2 years, and mostly gathering dust. I kept it powered on in my son's room as a glorified temperature/humidity sensor and Homekit hub.

I think most people here that have negative experience with it, wasn't the target audience for the homepod mini - they cheaped out by not getting the HomePod

I've had it for 2 years and it's been great! I use Apple music with it so definitely no syncing issues there, when I'm on hold on the phone I just bluetooth it to the homepod (some hold music volume is too low) but the homepod makes the volume a whole lot louder.

Siri commands are really good. I use it for my smart home accessories when I don't have my phone on me when I'm downstairs in the house

Oh and also doorbell chime with Ubiquiti

    • Unifi doorbell chimes for around my parents house is the main reason I just bought 5 of these! Plus they sound good enough for Mum to play some music thru while potting around.

  • Anyone knows when this promotion ends?

    • Available from Friday 29th November 2024 until midnight Wednesday 4th December 2024.

NB: Limit 2 per customer at Harvey Norman, but I got 5x from Noel Leeming via Price Match.
