These cheap China flights are insane. ~$400 for a return to China with bags, taxes and airport charges is incredible. The jet fuel alone for the flights would cost around $150 per passenger. It must be massively subsidised by the Chinese government.

If only the Chinese government could subsidise my time and life commitments as well, I'd visit every one of those cities.

  • Literally more expensive to go to shitting Queenstown on a one-way ticket more often than not, this is incredible.

In China now. Thought about where to go for a week. Explored options for Rotorua. Ended up here in Guangzhou living the high life and it's still cheaper than visiting Rotorua.

This is why NZ tourism is unfortunately not attractive for locals.

Exactly, I am going Guangzhou in 2 weeks and it is cheaper going there instead of south isl. especially when you start adding accomodations etc. DM me if there are any must visit places in and around guangzhou. I am going for a week.

      • Morning Tea is a must

    • How much is accommodation costing? What website has the best Chinese accommodation deals?

I'm staying at the Conrad Guangzhou and I'm not rich at all but China makes us plebs experience the rich life at an affordable price.

Don't hesitate just do it. Look up your regular hotel websites for prices.

        • I am going during canton fair and hotels are expensive during fair dates near by. Also booked a hotel through agoda 3 days ago and it has over 700 positive reviews but i couldnt find it on google maps, it has been 2 days since i sent them message but they havent responded. Feeling like it might be a fake hotel

      • https://bookings.beatthatflight.com.au/?currency=nzd actually has hotel searches as well :)

        The aforementioned Conrad Guangzhou: https://bookings.beatthatflight.com.au/hotels?=1&adults=1&ch…

Beatthatflight is my go to platform now. I feel like you guys dont bump up prices based on cookies like other sites which are very agressive. I got way better deal getting redirected to mytrip through beatthatflight instead of going there direct. Booked flights for friend to guangzhou through beatthatflight yesterday.

Is it similar booking hotels through you guys?

          • @TooFast: Absolutely. Also the way the data comes through into my system I literally can't bump up prices. If I did say, add 10%, you'd click through to mytrip and be like 'oh hey it's 10% cheaper' because I can't control them. Also that's way too much effort for me to code up :P

            • @beatthatflight: So how do you make money? Do you have a deal with the websites? Why is the price they give you even cheaper than what they offer directly on their own website? I've bought over 10k worth of flights now. I don't get how any of this works.

              • @Bill: Through the various layers of data providers, online agents and so on, I get a trickle down of commission. I also run ads, which people complain about but gotta pay my costs somehow :/
They offer lower prices through affiliates sometimes to draw traffic - it encourages people like me to advertise the deal I guess.
They tend to have lower than direct airline prices on the assunption they'll make money on the upsells (insurance etc) or mistakes (name changes etc). Also from my experience, I think a lot of them save money on customer service :/

Great deal, just booked for my wife and kids

  • I've clicked on a few of the deals you've posted.
I have never once got the price you posted. It's always about 10% higher. Sorted by "cheapest"

    • Interesting. I mean prices do fluctuate sometimes more often than daily in the airline world on some routes, but they're generally pretty accurate on this for a few weeks. Any in particular? I wouldn't mind seeing if I can investigate.

      • This time for example I'm looking at to beijing
        "$447 22 Oct to 5 Nov(bookings.beatthatflight.com.au) "
        Getting 516

  • Does Hainan Airline provide free hotel for overnight transit?

  • @beatthatflight when is the deal expiring

    • they kinda seem to just roll the window forward. So currently it's expensive in the next couple of weeks, then gets cheaper, up to end of the year. So in theory, two weeks before you want to fly? But if you know, I'd say book in case.

      • Still waiting on cheap flights leaving around Dec 7 or 8. Think it will happen? December gets expensive

        • That close to Christmas, you're probably not going to see lower than it is now :/ And from the 15th it really rockets up

    Two words, "Gutter oil"

And the economy is crashing now, gutter oil was a thing when the economy was doing well. I can only imagine all the new enterprises that have sprung up and find their way into the food you'll eat there.

"In 2010, it was estimated that gutter oil represented 10% of China's edible oil market (with 1 in every 10 restaurants using it) and that 3 million tonnes of gutter oil were consumed in China annually,[15] with a network of distributors of gutter oil across central and eastern China"
