Singapore - Marina Bay Sands Skydeck - Dont Be Fooled by The Souvenir Photo Upsell

Not a deal as such, just a bit of informed info for anyone visiting Singapore.

If going to the Marina Bay Sands Skydeck, they take your picture before you get in the lift to go up. By the time you are ready to come down again they've printed a photo of you superimposed against a Marina Bay Sands background in a carboard frame, key rings, snowglobes(?) and alike for hefty $$$$ which they try and flog you.

We declined.

However, through this process, they also give you a card with a reference number and QR code on it which takes you to mbsmoments.com. Having checked this, the photo taken of you, superimposed on 5 different views of MBS and a couple animated ones, are totally free to download.

Unless you have a hankering to add to your snowglobe collection, avoid the sales pitch.

That said, even going up to the Skydeck is pricey for what it is. Might be worth making a reservation for the Skydeck bar/restaurant instead (you cant get in to this with a Skydeck ticket) although unsure if there's any criteria around minimum spends etc.

Also, if visiting Sentosa, skip the cable car ride. Again, very over priced for what it is.

Old trick (except the free to download part), Kelly Tarlton's was doing that some 10 years ago.

    • Yeah, been to plenty of attractions where they take a pic, print and try to sell before you leave but this one just seemed a bit nuts that you can get the digital pics for free even though not mentioned by the staff during the pitch at the time

  • Thanks for this

I enjoyed the cable car to Sentosa, but that was several years ago. How much are they pinging you now?

    • $87 NZD for two people. What got me was they said you can only get on/off at each station once. You'd think it would be an all day pass for that given the cable car is constantly on.

I gather you can buy multi attraction passes, covering activities on an off Sentosa, which may reduce that cost down a bit.

  • Just curious, do skyline gondola and luge also do free digital photos?

    • They took our picture getting on the gondola and had it printed by the time we arrived at Sentosa station. They immediately offered a lower price when we said no to buying, but we still declined. No QR code card so I guess you cant get the digital pictures on this one.

  • We were surprised when going up the Sydney (Sky) Tower. Have a photo blab on the way up. No upsell when exiting just here is the q code for free photos with lovely Sydney backgrounds

Alternatively, in the evenings, you can pay between $30-38 (I believe fully redeemable) for entry to Ce La Vi the Club Lounge/Bar and have a couple or cocktails/mocktails/snacks. The views are grander from Ce La Vi. :-)

Dress to impress. Gentlemen must be in a shirt, covered shoes and long pants.

*Slippers/Sandals, active wear, singlets, beachwear are strictly not permitted in the premises.
