Nappy Bin Recommendation

Hi all,

We are looking for a nappy bin that will contain our baby's nappy smell. Our current standard rubbish bin is noy doing a good job of containing the smell. Does anyone have any recommendation on a good nappy bin that really work at a reasonable price?

We are currently looking at Korbell pedal bin. Any experience on this?

You need to empty it more frequently into the outside trash, bigger bins mean you will by default empty it less. It really should be a 24hrly task.

  • We had a Korbell and it was okay but the flap started not sealing properly and it would smell.

Picked up one of the Tommee Tippee ones used with empty cartridges and just refill them using the bulk rolls off trademe.
We probably empty every 2-4 days (11month y/o) depending on how many nappies go in it.
It's a better size so you can't fill it too much reducing the chance of it sitting and smelling.

    • We used tommy tipee with bulk roll refills for first 12-18mo , then when they get to 1-2 poo per day just put the nappy directly in an individual nappy bag in the outside bin

Bucket with a lid did us fine. We have a peddle bin in the bathroom I sealed up with some window insulating tape to keep the smell more contained.

You don't always need fancy expensive gadgets for this parenting lark, sometimes a lidded bucket and changing them on a $2 Kmart towel is just fine. If it works in the hospital I take that as I can do the same at home.

    • Thanks for that advice! I tried window seal around the inside rim lid of the pedal bin. Works like a charm! Smell has reduced significantly. Hardly smell it now! Happy parents and baby. Happy wallet. No need to fork out $$$ for just a nappy bin.

Long time ago now, but we just put the nappies directly in the outside bin when reasonable (not in the middle of the night or a huge rainstorm), and put them out at the earliest opportunity if not.

I don't recall it ever being an issue that way.

  • We use the Ubbi nappy bin. It works well and we don’t have an issue with smell. But we also use their scented liners. One of the best purchases we made.

I use the older version Tommee Tippee twist and click. I was using a bucket before that, but as she's gotten older, the Twist and click contains the smell better. I also put a air freshener at the bottom of the container. And I put the poo in the toilet when I can. If I can't, I put the nappy in it's own disposable nappy bag and then the twist and click to keep the smell down.
Also of note, my friend has twins and she just used nappy bags and a regular bin/bucket.

  • We have the Korbell bin , been 3 years still holding strong. But yeah you need to empty it constantly or it will smell as the bin is definitely not 100% smell proof . The liners are expensive -always check online . Plan to now use it as a regular bin.

  • Got given a Korbell from a friend when we had our first,
Works well. We never used the Korbell liners, just standard bin liners from the supermarket.
Only put number1 nappies into it,
Number 2s go straight to the bin outside.

If we werent given this one, Id probably do as Everettpsycho said and use a standard pedal bin with some DIY sealing

  • You could always do what my old tenants would do and throw them in the fire.

    • That's crazy lmao

      • Nothing like the smell of smoked poop of an evening….

      • Just 1 in a long list of disgusting things
