Calling all durian lovers! A new dessert cafe has opened up along Dominion Rd, specialising in all things Durian.
Fear not, you can't smell it from outside, but you'll definitely recognize the aroma once you're through the doors.
As an opening special they are offering a buy one get 50% off your second item of equal or lower value across the menu. Just show the image attached.
Currently they have a few durian cake (crepe layer cake and cheese cake) options and shake/smoothies as their specialty, but there's also some non-durian alternatives on the menu for those not quite ready yet.
They did mention that they were hoping to eventually sell durian itself, but didn't currently have enough stock to produce the food and also sell as fruit.
For those of you new to durian, this is a good way to start, the Musang King variant from which the store derives its name is a very highly regarded fruit. The flesh texture is creamy, soft, almost custard-like and the flavour is sweet and nutty. Having it in a shake or cake is also much less pungent, removing the first barrier somewhat.
As a durian lover I hope this place does well, will be interesting to see how Auckland responds!
