Booking Accomodation (How to Get Deal Prices?)

Hey All

I need to book some accommodation in Lower Hutt, Wellington for next weekend.

Using like Trivago, I can see what most booking sites offer
but was wondering if anyone know any cheapies hacks or tips to get cheaper prices or discount code etc

From what I'm finding it seems to be around $250-300 a night, I need to do 4 nights, also on person is senior citizen/Super Gold

You could try contacting your preferred accomodation direct - oftentimes places will beat the prices shown via third party sites (since they avoid paying their fees if you go direct).

    • Only had one hotel discount below what i found online, it seems booking websites undercut usually all the time to charge hotels "fees" for 3rd party bookings. Never understood it.

      • It does vary - my experience has been that I have often been offered a lower rate by going direct, but certainly not every time.

I still figure no harm in asking at least.

        • Yeah i was wondering about that, I'll try give some places a call

  • I use booking.com via cashrewards to get a cashback.

    • +1 for booking.com
You get more rewards (discounts and booking.com cash) when you keep using booking.com
I think they got a good loyalty program.

    • +1 for this

  • I've had soee luck recently calling a hotel and saying the rates I've seen online vary wildly between sites, even their own, and asked them for the best possible rate they can do.

  • Have you checked Airbnb? We prefer this as it is more convenient with kids

    • I was wondering about this but head terrible stories about charges and stuff happening after one leaves so not sure.

      • You need to read the reviews and only go for one higher than 4.5 or something. Don't go for new ones. They should have few reviews and read those.

Have used few over the years and no extra charges later. Again we use it as if it's our home and keep it tidy.

Tip: take video/photos while leaving in case of proof.

        • do they still do referrals or discount codes?

          • @Huntakillaz: Referrals are only for hosting. Haven't checked about discount codes.

          • @Huntakillaz: you can contact the airbnb host and ask for a deal/special, sometimes you get lucky and save money, doesnt hurt to ask

    • If you search for Airbnbs through the Qantas site, you can get Qantas points on top

  • Check the rates at "Quality Hotel The Angus"

It's not flash, but it was about half the price of other options last time I was staying in that area
