Too many Aussies in Bali (although I am also one)

Can reccomend a rural town called sideman for an authentic not so touristy experience… Apparently it is what ubud used to be like.

  • My wife and I have been talking about a trip to Bali this year for our 10th wedding anniversary; so this is good timing!
Looks like a pretty good deal. Ended up going 29th Oct to 12th Nov for $810ea return including one suit case to share.

Will need to figure out the best spots to go! Will have a look into Sideman town thanks A-deals.

    • Try luxuryescapes.com/nz for accommodation.

We booked Kaamala resort in Ubud and Melia in Nusa Dua through them for a trip last year, when they had both on offer.

      • Good to know thanks! How was the experience (with the website, resorts, and locations?)

Both were excellent for us - late 30's / early 40's couple with no kids - although full disclosure it was our first time to Bali so cant directly benchmark to other places there. We went May/June.

Kaamala is a small and attentive resort, pretty centrally located in Ubud so walkable for shopping/restaurants/bars but in a quiet location in itself. They had a good restaurant, excellent pool villa rooms overlooking rice fields and also a main pool with views over the jungle. Short walk to the monkey forest but also lots of monkeys coming and going through the resort too.

Melia is a big resort. We booked a "Level" room, all inclusive. Think private check in with a cold towel and fresh coconut already carved out with your name, daily minibar, dedicated breakfast area and adults only private pool reserved for Level guests. Food options were diverse whether buffet or al a carte and the inclusive speciality restaurants, especially the Japanese, were excellent. Pool and beach loungers and cabanas in the Level areas were never full that we couldnt get a spot. Some of the staff, especially around the pool and at breakfast, were spot on with the service, remembering names initially and then just turning up with the usual drinks or a nod to have another one coming. The pool team even came round regularly to give your sunglasses a clean or with fresh juice shots to keep you hydrated.

I've heard from a work colleague the Sofitel in Nusa Dua is great too. We looked at that but they didnt have a deal on for the dates we wanted. My parents have also stayed at Amarterra Villas in Nusa Dua. Again, they didnt have deals on at the time we booked.

Sounds like I'm pro Luxury Escapes but when they have deals on for specific places with additional inclusions it seems much better than other booking sites. We've used them for several years. There's also decent cashback available through Cashrewards, at a higher rate for new users (email address), which is an added bonus.
