  • Maybe ask at your local dump (if they have an e-waste section)?

  • Depends where you live. In Christchurch a lot of the ewaste gets looked at and sent to the eco shop where they sell it on in as is condition.

  • Yes these questions are kind of pointless when the person doesn't say where they are.

In my town it's as others have said. Our local transfer station runs a shop.

As it costs to dump e-waste you could even just make a post on your local facebook or neighborly page and say you will accept e-waste for free.

    • say you will accept e-waste for free.

and then what does he do with the e-waste?

      • No idea. He asked where to get free e-waste, I was giving him an option. :)

  • +1

We would occaisonally dump very aged stock at a noel leeming / harvey norman / jb / pb store that I worked for (vague).

If you didn't mind repairing a power cable you could get away with some bits. Some of the stuff we binned was perfectly good, and frankly, irresponsible to bin.

In one of the stores I worked at we were told to 'dispose' of them by our manager who didnt want to know anything more than that. At another the boss wanted photos.

    • yes, that would be the good place I would like to go if I can have a look of the stuff before binned……..I guess it would be difficult to find the time right because you never know when Noel Leeming/ Harvey Norman will have those.

      • Yeah, as you can imagine we only did that once or twice a year, and it was almost always things which had been returned, were broken or were display units for things no longer sold.

Or they were phone cases that were ludicrously expensive, sat for years then finally got binned

    • i knew someone who threw away a perfectly good tv because he upgraded to a bigger screen. some just have no idea.

      • It happens a lot. I was asked to dispose of a number of them and kept a bunch. It's pretty common for in home installers even if company policy is to not take them at all.

My 'honesty' got the better of me and I'd just ask if I could 'fix' them and keep them or put the good ones in the break room and everyone was happy. I had a 55" tv, full set of wharfedales and amp, imac, bunch of old laptops and old phones (phones always got donated)
