Black Friday Deals

How are you finding BF deals ?
What did you grab for a bargain
Is it a scam ?
Would be interested on the before and after and whether the retailers have jacked up the price and then list it as a BF discount

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals.

Bought two Hot Wheels cars from The Warehouse, a B.Box training cup for my lil fella and a few craft beers from NW. That's my Black Friday done.

My general consensus is most deals aren't actually that much of a bargain. Haven't seen any good deals on cheapies for a long time for that matter..

    • For the most part yes.
It seems to be retailers are only getting special deals on limited skus rather than broad categories.
This seems to be the case in the US too (i just came back from there)

  • I did buy a few things I was already looking at before black friday. They weren't much cheaper though. I'm not sure if I'm just spending less, but all the deals are pretty average. Nothing that different to all the other sales that run through the year. 5-10% off isn't black friday worthy IMO.

Retailers must be feeling the pinch since all the offerings are pretty low discounts.

  • I haven't bought much this black Friday, as I don't really see a lot of actual deals.

    But I noticed this one:
    https://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/p/zuru-bunch-o-balloons-tropi…

I was at the warehouse last Sunday and wanted to buy this one, and it was $12 per pack.
Now its for $15 with buy one get one half price.

so if buying 2 pack last sunday it was $24
    Now its $22.5, not good

    • its actually $18 for 2 packs now because they still havent fix the stacking discount flaw hehehe

      • Reminds me when i bought 10 or so 3packs a couple of years ago from warehouse, and the packer thought the order was 10 × 3 3packs, i still have some left!

        • I had 1x simcard in an order many years ago, but received a box of ten lol. Hey I think we have the same packer.

    • Have a look at magnetic water balloons/bombs instead of these disposable single use ones.

  • Half price fishing sinkers at the warehouse. Can never have too many.

Grabbed a few flasher rigs and sabikis as well.

Got a Fitbit Charge 6 at $20 reduction, for the Mrs for Xmas at JB HIFI. It came with a free Fitbit Aria Air Scales as BF special. Not a bad 'free extra' . The scales are normally $109.

  • Not planned but ended up getting S23 Ultra for $1049 with a trade-in and stacked with the AMEX deal at the EPP store.

    • +1

How does the trade in work when done online?

      • You provide the IMEI and answer a few questions then it gives you how much it would be worth. Then you go through with the purchase and they will provide the prepaid return label for the phone. You have 7 days to send it once you get your new phone.

        • So condition of the handset is irrelevant?

          • @L3tstaxth1s: It is, I believe a broken screen would give you less trade-in value as per the other comments above.

  • These are worth picking up if you're already in Bunnings https://www.bunnings.co.nz/grunt-25mm-x-3m-black-ratchet-tie… $12 for 4 tie downs is pretty good, especially when everyone who borrows your trailer always seems to forgot to bring back the tie downs 🤣

  • It's been a pathetic Black Friday really. Just compared a few TCL TV's between JB Hifi in AU and NZ and it's literally double the price in NZ.

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/tcl-75-c845-4k-uhd-mini-l…

    https://www.jbhifi.co.nz/products/tcl-75-c845-4k-uhd-mini-le…

    • Interesting even with a GST and FX differential it's way off.

    • Mum needs a TV but none of the TV has a Freeview coax input. Any ideas? are HDMI converters cheap?

      • They don't? News to me, have not TV shopped for 6 years. Some refer to it as "RF in" etc. You could always get a freeview receiver/recorder box and then go HDMI out of that to the TV/Monitor but it would require the TV being put on HDMI source most of the time and potentially switching between remotes to access the TV's built in smart features(depending on brand and remote compatibility).

Post the model numbers you are looking at. It sucks TV shopping these days because many manufacturers don't post photos of the rear ports on the TV

  • 2 x sewing machines (bogof) $650 + $200 redemption.
    1 x dunlop SUV tyre (70% off) $110 + fitting
    1 x pikachu velvet plush $9 (norm $30+)
1 x samsung a9+ tablet $400 (lowest price ever) + free samsung case $99 rrp.
    Kogan large plan 50% off.

Not many price alerts = average black friday.

    • well done
      Tyres- where from ?

      • Hyperdrive

Where is the Samsung tablet from?

      • Jbhifi, no longer offering free case as that promo has expired. The market with promo code maybe next best now

        • Samsung epp has A9+ 64gb @$349

          • @ace310: yeah thats good price, same as pbtech, what is the price for 128gb thats the one i got.

            • @nachos: $377

              • @ace310: nice thats a great price too, i dont have access to epp sadly.

    Consumer did an article: https://www.consumer.org.nz/articles/consumer-nz-study-finds…

"Farmers offered the worst Black Friday deals. The retailer had no Black Friday specials that were cheaper than pricing on offer at some point in the previous nine weeks."

    Savage.

    • Farmers are more Briscoes than Briscoes, I find it interesting how they manage to avoid the criticism. They don't even know how to price things for clearance.

I’ve ordered some “black friday” deal at Torpedo7 online last week.
No updates on the orders for over 10 days and got an email yesterday saying orders are all cancelled because they were incorrect price from system error.
    No remediation offered.
    Quite disappointed with Torpedo7 service.

    Pretty good prices for helmets
    e.g $300-400 rrp to $80-$90

Passed a good deal on ixs trigger ff helmet due to order from T7. Ended up with nothing lol

    • Challenge it with management.

    • T7 has been a nightmare for the past 2 months for online orders that ive done

    • Incorrect prices happen quite often at Torpedo7. Silly system.

    • I was in store about a month ago and they said their whole stock system had been changed a month or two before then and was causing issues. Being part of TWG I suspect they're all being standardised with whatever system TWG runs. It sounded like the new one was far more locked down so local stores had far less options and override capabilities.

      • Yup. They are increasingly moving to inhouse stuff.

Still using as400 in some stores though

    • Just realised the ixs trigger ff is still selling for $169. It's just that there's only xs left, though.

    • I ordered something to click and collect from them. They sent me a 'order ready to collect', so I went out there to collect it only for them to dick around for 20 minutes before telling me it was a pricing mistake and that they're not going to honour it.

Wasted an hour of my time + petrol. Bunch of (profanity).

      • Holy crap. That is so bad. Did you get any voucher or something for their mistake?

        • +1

Nope, nothing. I got offered the choice of a refund (lol?!) or I could purchase the item at a different price - this was a couple of hours later mind, when someone else from the store gave me a call. The guy I spoke to in store didn't even offer me anything other than 'yeah sorry'.

  • +1

Quite poor this year, I haven't actually bought anything. I was hoping Yeti bottles would go on sale, but all I've found is 10% off which will just get cancelled out by the shipping charge.

Hydroflask has a sale but I don't like their handle design.

  • Lego set good price - https://www.farmers.co.nz/toys/lego-construction/lego-classi…

Clothes from farmers, rod & gun, Barker's

    Jamie Kay kids clothes

    Unraid licence

Thinking of buying a Samsung a9+ 5g version

S22 ultra from pbtech and a case from UAG online store

  • Mostly it's over hyped and it still is. But there were some bargains if you needed them

    Things bought
    Samsung soundbar q800c
    Ozito 4ahx2 batteries
    Beelink eq12 N10 mini pc
    Unraid licence
Eufy stuff from aliexpress not exactly black Friday special - homebase3, Dual cam doorbell e340, solocam s340

    • The Ali 11.11 sale had better discounts.

I was surprised that the Aussie Amazon didn't have anything decent, as that's where I usually buy the most items from on Black Friday

      • Yup. Bought eufy during 11.11 only

    • Still possible to get Samsung soundbar q800c at that price ? How please

      • The 800c is $799 at a bunch of retailers. I'm not sure if it's been cheaper anywhere else, but according to Pricespy that's the lowest it's been anyway.

        • Samsung EPP had it for $577, out of stock now. With 10% welcome coupon came down to $519

          • @ace310: Woah. How does one join the EPP without being part of a company of 200+ employees?

  • Wellington fire and bbq had $15 swifties ribs, missed out in those :( They also had 50% off sauces and rubs which i replenished my stock.
~$200 off whole house water filter
20% off at animates for cat food.
15% off at repco for some brake pads.
What worked out to be 25% off at nespresso.

  • Got the Amazon Fire TV Stick (2023) 4K Max
    For $29.

I had to combine it with another deal for new Afterpay Customers but well with it.

  • Finally upgrading the PC after 6 years of use; did a mixture of purchasing the bulk of it in Aus for pick up (yay TRS Refund scheme) as I'm heading there this week for a couple days, a couple off Amazon with free prime shipping and the case and case fans locally at PBTech.

Build with mixed parts from Aus: $3789.9 NZD (assuming the TRS refund goes smoothly)

    • are you not supposed to pay gst on trs refund products in NZ.

      • yeah technically OP will be importing goods worth over $1k and should pay customs fees / GST on it. Bro's over here committing tax evasion and thinking he's getting a bargain lol.

        • yeah i would avoid buying a case and just put the parts in suitcases.

        • Eh nothings stopping me from tearing open the boxes and saying they're used personal belongings. The goods don't need to be in new condition when you claim the TRS refund anyway as long as they were purchased in the last 60 days. The intent is to stop peeps from reselling it as new locally.

  • ok.. got it so as long as I open the box and make sure they are not new any more then I can get it here. that sounds good. I need to buy camera gears.

  • What's the best place locally to buy an AMD cpu/motherboard/ram combo, doesn't really seem like any great deals around our NZ computer stores?

    Cheers

  • I actually spent a lot more this Black Friday than I usually would. The biggest spends/savers for me are:
    - Mitre10, Wattyl deck stain 5l, 50% off and I needed 3x tins so paid around $150 instead of $300.
    - Onceit, Limited Edition Blunt metro umbrellas, 40% off, I got 3x as xmas presents so $270 instead of $450.
    - Kogan mobile, 365 Medium plan, 50% off, so $150 instead of $300.
    - Kiwiplates, custom carplate, 15% off $850 instead of $1000. (I'm not 100% sure it's actually a Black Friday sale tho)

Also picked up various small items of Aliexpress and Shein that I was planning to buy anyway, however there's always some sort of sale happening on those sites anyway so who knows how much those really save compared to normal.
