Hair Clippers - Do You Have a Recommendation?

With Black Friday 2023 coming up I thought I might look at getting myself a new pair of clippers. Family genetics hit my head hard with a bald spot, so I tend to give myself a 0 cut once a week or so.

I currently have a Braun pair that have done pretty well but i think the blades are starting to dull and due to its design not something I think i have sharpen.

These clippers have been great, good battery, work well in the shower, easy to clean however the 'haircut' they are giving isn't as sharp as they used to after several years of use (3 years I think).

Example of what I currently have: https://www.harveynorman.co.nz/personal-care-and-health/shav…

I could just get the same model again but I thought I would ask if there are any personal recommendations I should keep an eye out for with Black Friday coming up.

Thanks.

    • Thank you, I will look into this one.
Good reviews, do you mind if I ask if you have had rash issues?
Seems to be a minor group of reviews that may have sensitive skin.

  • Can you buy spare parts replacement head unit if it's detachable. I could for my Phillips shaver

    • I can buy a replacement head, the unit itself is still great and it does an alright job. I got it during covid and while it does a good job it doesn't do a great one.

So happy to look at something that could be great to treat my head. Definitely saved on barber fees and time over the years. Miss the scalp massage though.

  • Wahl cordless - have been using for years.

    • Thank you, always heard that Wahl was a good brand online.
Is this the model you use?

      • I got my one from Shavershop - similar kit.

I've probably used around 3 Wahl cordless clipper kits in the past 15 to 20 years. They're reliable and the attachment heads transferrable.

I would love the fancy red Wahl ones that the barbers use (name escapes me), but I can't justify the cost.

        • Awesome, I will Google the shop after work, I not in the biggest rush, just hoping for some good sales, so handy to know where to look. Will keep Wahl on the list, thanks.

          • @Fox419: If youre doing 0 cuts often, the one that I put up is easier and faster. I've tried both.

            • @Lieutenantdave: Yeah I do like the idea of the shape of the RX7, and I do try to keep it short at least once a week but would prefer to do more.

        • Anyone know what ‘the fancy red Wahl’ is exactly ?

  • We use a Wahl V5000, very happy with the machine.

    • Thank you, will look into that one too.

When we were shopping around I recall reading something about US made Wahls in comparison to the chinese counterpart, and that US variants have better motors - we haven't really tried any other but the one we got has been running strong since 2021.

        • Good info to know, reminds me of how USA Samsung Galaxy phones usually have a better chip compared to the international version, cheers.

  • I've been cutting my hair for years & have tried a few different domestic clippers - all broke or ended up giving terrible cuts. I have thick hair and recently bought wahl seniors cordless. I thought that I may as well spend a bit more and have ones that last and do a good job. Im so glad I bought them. They cut through my thick hair effortlessly. Highly recommend them.
