Even with the discount, it's $2393 for the Dragoon Breeze and that's only got a top speed of 32kph. Why would anyone spend this money when they can get a escooter like the Vsett 8 from Electric Monkey, which goes up to 42kph, at only $1300 including shipping?

If it was a mountain bike or anything other than an ebike with carbon fiber frame, then that might be a different story. But if you're someone who's thinking of buying an ebike, you're not really using it to exercise much, you're just really using it for commute and letting the motor do all the work for you. At that point, just get an escooter. There are some very good esctooers at $2000 that can go up to 50~55kph. 32kph is weak and you'll notice it when you go uphill.

I think you'll find the use cases for scooters and ebikes very different. Also note that top speed will vary on a lot of different things, rider weight, tyres etc. It's best to use torque and power to compare.

I've owned ebikes before. I weigh between 65~70kg, average height male. I can tell you that ebikes that are rated at 32kph will struggle to go uphill because they are just damn slow. I don't weigh a lot and therefore the top speed isn't limited by my weight. The tyres don't matter that much, I've tried a few different ones (for winter and summer) and they don't magically bump your 32kph to 50kph.

Real world use case, you'll only get 32kph during best conditions, i.e flat terrains. Whenever ebike or escooter manufacturers list top speed, it almost always means flat terrain.

Vsett 8 is an entry level scooter from Vsett, but are damn good. They literally go up to 42~45kph on flat terrain and do not struggle to go uphill whatsoever and that's on a much smaller 8.5' tire, compared to an ebike tire. No matter how you look at it, an ebike with 32kph will NOT be able to magically squeeze out an additional 5~10kph to compare with a scooter that does 42kph. Let alone a scooter that's e.g. $1800~$2000 and does 50~55kph easily.

I also don't see what special use cases there are for getting an ebike. They are heavy, you can't lug them around and stow them in your car. The Vsett 8 weighs 21kg and it's much lighter than a typical ebike. But even at 21kg, it's quite heavy, but at least it's easily stowed and can be transported in a car without additional straps or whatever, which you'd need for a bike (regardless electric or not). So all in all, it's really just used for commute and it's just heavy and not ideal.

For anyone looking to get one for commute, seriously look at escooters instead. You can ride on footpaths if you're not comfortable riding on road, they are much faster in general and easy to carry. Most importantly, they go uphill much better due to the higher speed. That's the number one thing you'll notice when you get slow and weak ebikes or escooters. Don't go cheap on low top speed, get something decent.

You only have two solid points there: scooters are more portable than bikes and that they can be faster than a class1/2 ebike.

          1. You are misrepresenting top speed for torque. There are bikes that can push you almost vertical hills (figuratively speaking) that are still 32kph max.
          2. 32kph is an artificial barrier for ebikes to be road-legal. Most motors are well capable reaching speeds more than 32kph (and there are guides how to unlock this). You can also go well past 32kph, just without motor assist :)
          3. If we take out the MTB/Xcountry/Trail part of "why" ebike is better and focus on just commuting, here's a few reasons why they are better than escooters:
            • More stable. One marginal pothole on small wheels and you can tumble head-first. I've ridden a few powerful dual-motor escooters and they are terrifying to ride on. Very sensitive (depending on the model) throttle, especially on boost/power modes, which takes off so fast that you have to hold for your life :D
            • More versatile, not for just commuting
            • Can go through rough terrain
            • Sitting vs standing, but this is technically countered by having to pedal a little bit. Later to me is a bonus as it makes you exercise a little bit :) Otherwise class 2 has throttles
            • More space to fit stuff. Cargo bags, bottles. Technically you can do the same to some degree on escooter but it's a comparison
            • I'm not taking my kid for a ride on an escooter. Not sure if it's even legal, but I've seen people doing this and it scares the shit out of me.
            • Pedalling an ebike with a flat battery is quite an exercise but doable, compared to pushing 20+ kilo escooter.

As mentioned - not good value for money for an unknown brand/components, even with "sale" prices.

Plus - you just had one posted 6 days ago and expired it. I don't think Cheapies is an advertisement platform.

  • Same sentiment as the other comments, avoids brands like this, especially at these prices.

  • Thanks for your comments. Dragoon Bikes has been in business for over 3 years. Bikes and scooters are completely different modes of transport. Please read our reviews on google if unsure. We use samsung and LG batteries in our ebikes, and shimano shifters and derailleur (so common well know parts). Thanks

Pretty suspect, absolutely no details on the scooter page, and "a new design" compared to what? Looks like generic dropshipped stuff with a brand slapped on.
