Looking for info on Mobil stations in Hamilton who will petrol price match ?

Hi, myself and friend doing a trip through Hamilton 2morow Mobil Smiles Tuesday Oct 10th. He will try to fill up in Hamilton area. Cheapest at this moment 91 petrol is a Pak N Save Clarence St with the 6 cent saver docket. Any Cheapies know of a Mobil Station that often will price match the cheapest competitor in Hamilton area ?.

Get yourself a Supercard in the future.

Mobil Te Rapa $2.73/L for 91.

    • Thanks Wakrak, interesting idea but it's he (friend) car and driving. He is a golden oldie so doesn't believe much in those type of Fonterra deal discount account type things. My Gaspy shows Mobil Te Rapa at 2.89 now, so 2.79 with 10 C off Tuesday if it holds at that pricing. . Can't see any new bonus cents off vouchers in my Mobile app ither……

Fair enough. Mobil Te Rapa used to match Gull when they do that $ off per litre special, but haven't seen them do it in a while. Te Rapa is often the cheapest Mobil Station here too.

I used to detour via Hamilton to fill up at Te Rapa, but since about 4 months ago the prices have crept up and now mostly match prices in Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Pirongia and Ngarauwahia, meaning I no longer "have to" go through Hamilton to fill up. Saves me on time…

    • Now $2.69/L

  • Thanks all. Interesting that Gull Hampton Downs on the edge of Auckland is cheaper than almost all stations in Hamilton area. I think Hampton Downs too is in the 12 cent Auckland petrol s…t tax zone, but yep it's a tiny little unmanned station…😳

The boundary is just south of Bombay. So the Bombay service centre and Pukekohe are within Auckland zone, but Pokeno, Mercer, Meremere, Tuakau, Hampton Downs and Mangatawhiri are outside of the Auckland regional fuel tax zone.

  • Interesting - we filled up, 3/4 of his tank or so, in the end at Gull Hampton Downs at just $2.73 a litre of 91 petrol. :) The lowest price in Auckland area today, and one of the lowest 91 petrol prices throughout NZ today…

I'm impressed with Gull's unmanned stations payment and fill system, it worked fast and without ant hesitation or bug, including recognising my phone number for him to automatically instantly email me the receipt for him.

    • Isn't Gull petrol quality bad though? Read a couple of Reddit threads about this.

Personally speaking, I think the bad rep is true to an extent. I seem to consistently run out of fuel a lot faster and on a lower range when I top up with them. For example, I might only get like 400KMs on Gull but I get like 450KMs with BP. Same driving pattern and route.

      • Never proven with wide spread evidence. It's technically very unlikely because all fuel sold retail in NZ must meet set Government standards. And it would mean that Gull's competitors like BP would have to be selling, at close to Gull's usually lower priced product, a miraculously advanced petrol product…! ? 🤔

      • Are you using Force 10 or standard 91? Force 10 is a blend - biofuel and 10% ethanol - so your mileage might vary depending on your engine. Standard 91 is exactly the same as every other petrol station's 91.

(NovaAlpha, just to note Gull's Force 10 is a 98 octane petrol too, not a regular 91 octane petrol. I personally can not, and/or don't wish to, use any ethanol added petrols in my vehicle(s)).

  • (Thanks nzoutdoors. I suspect alot of us confused as to the exactly where the Auckland region borders are).
