Porting Number from ContactMobile

Hi Team,

I need your help in porting number from Contact mobile to other providers. I am struggling to get out from contact mobile monthly plan.

The issue is the other service providers were looking account number from Contact mobile. The other service provider is expecting account number only with numeric characters.

But contact mobile is having account number with Alpha numeric characters.

Anyone has successfully ported number from Contact mobile to other providers. Please provide your suggestions.

Thanks
Vishnu

  • Can't comment on the specific of Contact mobile, however porting in general requires the SIM card number at the back of the physical SIM. I'm guessing that's what the new provider requires to be able to port your number.

I'm not sure about eSIM though, as I have only done physical SIM porting

      I'm guessing it's a physical sim card.

What information do I need to sign up?

You'll need an email address and to provide your physical address so we can send you a new SIM card. You'll also be asked to provide a credit or debit card to be used for your monthly payments (once your 3 months free offer ends).

How do I get my current number transferred to Contact?

Just sign up with us and when you insert your new Contact SIM for the first time, you'll be asked for some details to help us transfer your number across. You'll then need to put your old SIM back into your phone so you can approve the transfer via an automated text, which should arrive within 15 minutes. Once you have approved the transfer, you can put your new Contact SIM back into your phone.

Yep. I was just answering the e-sim vs physical sim query from spam.

    • Thankyou. I am doing a physical sim porting only. Have you done a sim porting from contact mobile to other provider.
if you have a prepay sim then you need a sim card number
if you have pay monthly plan then you need account number.

      • I'd try calling the new provider and asking them.

        • I have tried calling 2degrees. Not much luck

          • @unhsivzn: What did they actually say when you told them that their (2Degrees) form requires numeric characters only, and Contact's account number includes alphabetic characters?

If their response was, say, something like 'tough luck', then you'll need to give up on this, and look to move to someone other than 2Degrees.

No, I haven't done porting from contact mobile but have done several times between providers; last one was skinny to koganmobile.

All of them have been prepay so I've always provided the number at the back of the SIM, not sure about the monthly pay.

Like Alan said, probably best to ring the new provider. Given that it's 2degrees, good luck with the waiting times :)

        • 2degrees… pain…

  • Have you tried phone number as the account number? Some providers use phone number as the account number.

    • Tried that one waiting for the outcome

Might be easier to just go into a 2degrees store and see if they can help you port across.

I have encountered problem when porting from Contact mobile to One NZ.
Took almost a week back and forth to figure out the account number which you don't see it in the Contact Mobile App.

You'll need to sign in to https://contactmobile.co.nz/sign-in
Then click on your Name (on top right), under Personal Data - you'll see your customer Account Number which is a very long reference with combination of alphabet and number.
That's the customer account number I provided to One NZ and they are able to port my number straight away.

    Hope that helps!

    • Thankyou Zajnic.
I am in the same process now. Visited a OneNZ store yesterday and they are doing the porting today for me.
Have you done online or visited a store?
I have tried doing online and I can't find contact mobile in the list of previous mobile provider.

I am not able to find contact mobile as a service provider in another platform as well. (Kogan,2degree and Megatel)

      • I have done it through Harvey Norman, they have to fill up the manual form for some reason.
Took a while to switch it to One NZ.
Hope that will go smoothly for you after providing the long reference customer account number for them.

        • Thankyou.

  • Finally …To move away from contact mobile, porting is not possible through online. You need to visit the store and get the porting done.
Preferably One NZ is the best.
    Thankyou everyone for your inputs.

  • FWIW, It seems Skinny is quite easy https://www.cheapies.nz/comment/203412/redir as they actually show Contact. Also you only need the first 8 characters before the hyphen of your account number, the same one that's shown in the invoice rather than the whole long thing shown online.

However based on my own experience, porting to Spark and Warehouse Mobile (and I expect 2degrees) is still highly problematic because they refuse to accept your alphanumeric account number is valid.
