Countdown Butter Salted 500g $4.90 @ Countdown

80

I had originally thought this was only available starting next week as per their catalogue

At $4.90 it is the same as it was a few weeks ago but under the Alpine brand.

However, this is available now so here's hoping this 'low price' is here to stay.
Thanks to memske for letting me know it was live now.

These are active now for NI at least.

      You're right.
I had searched Grocer (but not the Countdown website) so it is available now nationwide by the look of it.
I will update the post. Thanks

I think these are all semi-permanent prices, really good to see some prices finally decreasing!

    • Yes they are.

They've put a lot of these back to the price they were before they started rapidly hiking everything.

The $5 house-branded Weet-bix is making me wonder if that was the driver for Sanitarium cutting The Warehouse off.

Call me cynical, but its amazing how everything got expensive, and then Woolworths releases their own versions, but cheaper…

    • +1

Not cynical at all imo. It's blatant that their rebrand ties into this as well (progressive won't have to pay for different packaging once countdown and woolworths are all under one brand).

      • +2

Called Woolworths now - hasn't been called Progressive for some years I believe, but only now are they re-branding Countdown to Woolworths.

Always seemed crazy not to have gone with Woolworths back when they combined Countdown, Woolworths, FoodTown, (and maybe BigFresh - not sure about that one though) but you have to think they had a good reason.

        • If I recall correctly the reasoning at the time was that Countdown was the strongest brand nationally. I'm with you though, surely the writing was on the wall for it to be Woolworths eventually with the strength of the brand in Australia and the renaming of the group.

          • @ABCDEFG: I always find it a bit strange when you have the Woolies logo and colours, but the Countdown name.

          • @ABCDEFG: I heard it was not just that the Countdown brand was stronger but that people associated Woolworths with high prices. I remember their early ads were something like 'low prices but we pack your bags for you'.

That's true - Woolworths in NZ was pitched in competition with New World, and definitely not PNS (for example).

      • Countdown and woolworths has had the same branded packaging for as long as i can remember.

    • +1

Countdown already had its own brand at $5.50. Dairy prices in general seem to have dropped recently too.

On par with Pams 500g at PNS. $4.89 most stores. $4.69 at others.

    • I see it is at my local PNS now for that price. I’m sure it wasn’t that price when we bought it not too long ago. Good to see.

      • Our local matched it upon the CD announcement ;p

      • +2

I haven't seen it over $5 at a Pak N Save all year

        • It was in Lincoln Road and Westgate for most of the year IIRC. Either Pams or Mainland or both

  • Is salted much different to the ones that don’t state they’re salted though?

    • +1

No, I think it's just to differentiate it from the unsalted version in its range

    • +1

In NZ, it is pretty much standard that butter is salted, and un-salted butter is clearly marked as such.

      Can't guarantee it though!

  • In the North Island (well my local West Auckland along with Wellington but not Dunedin), they also have their new Countdown Everyday Cheese 1kg for $10 as a 'low price' i.e. a semi permanent price. https://www.countdown.co.nz/shop/productdetails?stockcode=37… They call this a 'young cheddar', I haven't tried it but assume it's similar to mild.

You've been able to get the same deal or better (well some cheese for 1kg, not necessarily mild) at Pak'nSave for a very long time in most of the North Island but still useful for those who don't have a nearby Pak'nSave or prefer Countdown I guess.

I don't know if this means they're not going to have their normal Countdown cheese for $10 specials any more.

P.S. The cheese and I think the butter have been at Lincoln Road since Monday

  • Interesting that the vouchers for the new rewards card will be usable at both Woolworths and BP

No. From launch, Everyday Rewards will give you total freedom to redeem your $15 vouchers at Woolworths or bp as you see fit. For example, you could redeem the first voucher you earn at Woolworths and your second one later at bp.

Not only will the vouchers you earn be redeemable on your fuel spend, but you'll also be able to enjoy a 6 cents per litre discount on fills of up to 50 litres at bp, just for being an Everyday Rewards member and scanning your card.
