Most Mobile Data for a Weekend Away

Looking for the best deal to get the most mobile data for a weekend away to use in a caravan.

I've come up with:
1. Buy new skinny & any other provider sim (~$2 each)
2. Activate other provider sim
3. Transfer other provider number to skinny to receive bonus 8GB skinny data
4. Sign up for skinny $20/ 7 day 10GB prepay plan

In the end for ~$24 I get 18GB of data that includes hot spotting which is important as it's to be used in a travel router in a caravan.
And at the end of the 18GB there is still endless data but at reduced speeds.

If anyone has a better idea I'd like to know.

Netspeed is great for longer periods ($99 for unlimited data). But I don't want to pay that if it's only used for 2-3 days.

  • If you aren't going soon, $5 Kogan starter Sim card has 15gb of data. Could pick up a couple and register them for two people if you run out in the first.

    • Didn't think of using multiple sims like that, thanks.

  • 2° data clock. 3 days $22

    • *No tethering but if its just for the phone i would go this route.

      • I can tether on 2Degrees no problem.

        • Skinny - Data Binge

12 hours unlimited data pack with hotspot for $5

          Weekend 2 days = $20 + sim

          • @BDS: "Tethering and hotspotting not included."

Dont get me wrong, I aint a fanboy of 2°, have recently changed from Skinny (long time user) to 2° solely for the ability to be able to change the ringtime before voicemail kicks in. Free voicemail was a welcome surprise too. In these parts Skinny = 5G, 2° = 4G

          • @BDS: Where does it mention a hotspot addon?

      • "* Fair Use Policy applies. Max speeds on Data Clock reduce to 1mbps after 40GB/month, per person & hotspotting speeds may be reduced further during periods of network congestion."
Didnt realise speed reduction after 40GB/m though

    • Do they list data clock prices anywhere? Can't seem to find it.
Also sounds like I'd need to buy a prepay plan as well? Or can I just have a no plan prepay sim?

      • I'm fairly sure you don't have to purchase a pre-pay pack - you can just use pay-as-you-go.

For most people / most of the time, the packs are better value though.

        • to use data clock you have to be in a prepay plan

          • @The Hound: Didn't know that, but I guess it makes sense.

There is a $10 (can't recall if 28 days or a calendar month) pre-pay pack I believe - probably the cheapest option to be able to get the data clock deals such as one hour of free data.

            • @Alan6984: yeah it will be way too generous because you can use data clock for a whole year lol (pay as u go credit valid period)

You're right - would be good if you could!

                • @Alan6984: hmm just to clarify, I meant you have to be in a prepay plan to get data clock's free hour each day. But on pay-as-you-go, you can still use data clock but have to use your credit to pay for data. So you are correct actually in your original statement, just no free hour in pay as you go.

      • data clock prices will vary alot, plus they have discounted offers each day

  • https://www.mightymobile.co.nz/ "Faster Plan" $25/m for "Unlimited Data up to 50Mbps".

  • Go with Contact large plan which is free first 3 months - unlimited data. Best plan currently available I think.
