  • Unbelievable.. 2days ago I paid 4k for flights during the same period. No amount of cheapies scroll will make up for my error haha

This flight is 42 hours though

Also while in transit in china. If you dont have a vpn your whatsapp wont work.

Well it might work but not reliably

      • Guangzhou with the extended layover isnt too bad though. The zoo is pretty cheap. Paying for stuff is a nightmare though.

        • What do you mean by paying for stuff is an issue?

@L3tstaxth1s: You need wechat pay or Alipay everywhere you go in China now, not many places accept cash these days.

But I've heard recently both Wechat pay and Alipay have started accepting foreign credit cards.

            • @txf: Did not know that. Is WeChat pay and alipay their equiv of Google play and apple pay?

              • @L3tstaxth1s: You mean Google Pay (Google Wallet now)? And yes, they are.

WeChat / AliPay have been around for ages. I personally don't use them, but I'd say they're safe. Lots of NZ stores and restaurants support them since years ago and I've seen them heaps at stores.

          • @L3tstaxth1s: No where accepts visa/mastercard. Even at the airport few places did which on an 8 hour layover it can be a pain in the ass.

    • Sorry about your loss

  • Is it a good airline or budget?

    • Imo it is a good airline. Serving meals and snacks inclusive, 23kg checked luggage per person.
OK economy space and clean equipment.
These are all signs disguising it to a budget airline?

  • do we need transit visas in China? booked through china eastern airline

    • +1

You don't need a transit visa if you only have one stopover in China AND you are flying to a 3rd country.

      • Cheers for that!

  • Best to check with the airline. Last time I flew with China Southern, one stopover in Guangzhou, then another stopover in Beijing to Uzbekistan. The travel agent said I needed a visa for Beijing (can't remember the reason now).

    • was your destination Uzbekistan? Tashkent? I backpacked through there ~12 years ago this month, ah memories.

      • Yes, landed in Tashkent, then flew to Nukus to go to Aral sea. Also went to Khiva, Bukhara, Samarkand, Shahrisabz then back to Tashkent. It was an amazing journey!

  • China eastern might be a bit better as the flight to Amsterdam has only a 8h stopover and 19h back. 1744NZD

China Southern has 2 times 18 hours
Also China eastern has more options later in September for the same low price.

Personally I prefer China Southern over Eastern as Eastern's safety records have not been really good, I'm a Chinese and kind of into aviation.

    • I only took China Eastern a couple of times.
Personally I think Southern has a better cabin service, better equipment etc.

Hi, how do I find details to do an extended stopover? Or an extra one?
