How to Exclude Some Sellers/Stores in Trade Me Search?

Just wondering if there are any tricks to filter and exclude certain seller/shop when searching in TradeMe ? I am not against any of them, it's just when looking for second-hand lego for my kids, there are a bunch of seller/shop that sell individual figurine, hundreds of them … How can I exclude those sellers ? Especially, they will always be there and it will unlikely to have good bargain ;-)

I discover recently that you can use "NOT keyword" to exclude some words in description and title.

There's a user that sells phone cases as 'used' and theyre brand new and it ruins trying to find anything xiaomi on the website

    • There used to be a 'report this listing' option you could use (if you can be bothered).

One time years ago I was so frustrated that I went through and reported about 100 listings that were clearly in the wrong category's and cluttering up actual results. From memory only a couple got removed. There's just no will from TradeMe to tidy up their marketplace.

Yeah - the root cause is a lack of competition.

TradeMe is effectively a monopoly (I'd guess they could have 80% or more market share in NZ - I might be wrong though).

Ive done it a few times and even left q&a answers politely pointing out that the items are in the wrong categorization. No change

Yeah - I would say that, to have any chance of them changing it, you'd have to report to TM, rather than just point it out to the vendor, since the vendor has chosen the category.

Probably pointless though, as noted above.

This might be helpful if the seller has their name in the listing to exclude them from your searches. No way to blacklist an account to stop seeing the listings.

Interesting that you can't - I would have thought a blacklist would be a basic option, but in twenty years I've never noticed the omission (or perhaps it used to be available and is no longer).

      • They have a blacklist for sellers(block specific people bidding or asking questions on your listing)

Unfortunately trade me lacks a lot of modern features, they even stopped adding new categories.

Like most things once a big company buys it innovation stops and just the basic/bare minimum is done to keep it going along with a ui update every 5yrs to make it look like they doing stuff

I am trying bidbud.co.nz as mentioned in the reddit thread above. It has the feature to exclude Seller ! It's just a bit weird to have a third party accessing you trademe account so I created an empty one … Anybody know this bidbud website ?

Bidbud has been around for years and is definitely trustworthy, in fact while the site is perhaps not endorsed by TM it's certainly allowed by them as it uses their API with their authority. BidBud is free, and is so good, in fact, that many people use it as their main interaction with the site.

When you log into Bidbud, they do not get your TM login details, you are actually only ever logging into TradeMe and then authorising BidBud to act on your behalf. It's very safe.

BidBud has other useful tools: auction sniping being their biggest feature, but also a bad feedback checker, far better search capability, automated group/multi buys, and much, much more. Did I mention it's totally free?

      • I had a try at it is so awesome !!! This going to make my cheapie life so much more efficient !!!!

How do they earn money ???

      • Thanks, I am going to try that. Didn't knew about it.

      • That’s looks really useful.
        Thanks.

  • Just tried, unfortunately there's no phone app for it, which means no easy way to save "recent searches" which I use a lot.

    • Ok, they allow you to save the search as favourites which is an alternative.

It can save the search and also the results ! Which means that it can tell you what changed since last time you search rather going through the list and remember which listing you already saw last time !!!

  • Guys, I was just trying to test this method on bidbud. Blacklisted a seller, but his listings still turn up in my search results. Did I miss something? Please note that it was just for testing purposes, I was not against this particular seller.

    • NVM, it looks like it would take a few minutes for the change to take effect. The listings have disappeared now.

  • Sorry to hijack an old thread - i'm looking for advice on how to best list and sell multiple items on Trademe. Have come across Bidbud as well as the Trademe feature 'My Products'. I will only ever have 1 quantity of a product but may have multiple listings on the go. Which would be easiest/better to use?
Hopefully something that will allow me to bulk auto relist everything when closed without selling and/or manage listings easily on a mobile device.
Would appreciate any feedback/suggestions - thanks!

    • AFAIK, just My Products - but I don't know how good it would look on Mobile (as it is a website and not an App).

You can effectively set up listings and forget them until they sell though as it will auto-relist.

    • With MyProducts you can setup 1 listing and then clone the listing and make more of the same and then modify it to suit

  • A great feature on BidBud apart from the ability to autobid within seconds of the auction closing is to allow the app to automatically block bad traders who bid on your listings. It auto removes bids and blacklists them if their bad feedback is above your selected threshold (percent). It will also warn you if they're close to it or a new trader and it's easy to blacklist traders who post unwelcome comments. Saves heaps of hassle with timewasters.
