Cheapest Way to Keep AirNZ Airpoints Dollars from Expiring?

Looking at https://www.airnewzealand.co.nz/airpoints-direct-earn-credit…
It seems the Kiwibank's Airpoints Low Fee Visa at $50/y would be my best bet?

Are there any lower options?

I know the American Express Airpoints Card is $0/y but it appears as though only future points gained will be kept for 4 years. Can't find any mention on current points/dollars.

    Hey Bot,
I think you have limited options to stop your Airpoints from expiring:

Upgrade your frequent flyer status to Gold or Gold Elite - Your Airpoints Dollars won't expire while you retain Gold status. If you move below Gold, you will have until your next anniversary of joining to use any Airpoints Dollars that were due to expire. If your next anniversary falls within two months of you moving below Gold, you will have a full two months to use your expiring points.

Hold an Airpoints branded credit card - Unfortunately, this doesn't apply to the free American Express Airpoints Card which has the standard four-year Airpoints expiry. You're right that the next best card with this benefit is the Kiwibank Airpoints Low Fee Visa which costs $50/year. Another option would be to get the American Express Airpoints Platinum card. This one costs $195/year but there's also a $300 sign-up bonus.

If you don't want to go with any of these options and they're going to expire anyway, you could purchase something from the Airpoints Store. The prices aren't always the best so I would get a Mitre10 voucher and spend it on anything you want in store including discounted items. Perhaps a good time to stock up on some household staples.

    • Hmmmmm, thanks! I hadn't considered the American Express Airpoints Platinum with the sign-on bonus. Might be a good short term option.

  • Easy - buy a ticket with flexi cancel, cancel the ticket, your Airpoints credit will last 12 months

Note there is a backlog on refunds atm, it’s not an immediate process

    • That's certainly some outside the box thinking. Thanks for the tip.
