Does Dell NZ usually do EOFY sale or similar as they do in Australia?

Been shopping for a 4K gaming monitor. Just saw this deal on OzBargain: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/778785

Insane price for this 4K/144 monitor of AUD528 vs NZD944 at the moment on their NZ website.

I wonder it is worth waiting for something similar on their NZ site? Do they usually follow the Aus site specials?

Thanks heaps:)

  • They might do an EOFY sale, but it would be around 31 Mar of course.

However, they might be doing a sale this weekend for King's Birthday.

    • Companies can actually choose their own fiscal years for accounting purposes. I worked for a number of larger companies that were on 1 Jan-31 Dec cycle. For these companies it made sense to spend money/sell more in December. For others it was aligned to their overseas head quarters etc… Tax year stays the same though. So EOFY for Dell NZ might be different to 31 March.

      • They can, but it would be strange to call it an EOFY Sale in NZ, when it isn't actually a (general) EOFY.

Also, I think you are perhaps a bit confused about the 'benefit' of selling more in the last days of their tax period, rather than, say, the first few days, as you would be proposing that they bring forward any tax to pay on the profit on those sales, rather than deferring it.

However, you are at least partially technically correct, even if reaching a bit :-)

    • My company operates 1 July - 30 June for their FY

      • I think you are missing the point of advertising an EOFY sale, which is relevant to the purchaser, not to the supplier.

As a supplier, all other things being equal, you would prefer to make a sale on the first day of the FY, not the last day.

  • +2

I am also eyeing up this monitor!! After also seeing this on ozbargain, I chatted with a Dell NZ rep on the live chat about it, and he made it pretty clear to me to expect a sale in the next 2-3 weeks that will include this monitor. I'm refreshing the page multiple times a day lol.

When it does go on sale, you should be able to use code NZAFFILIATES5% to get a further 5% off or if you have a student or MPP code you can get 7% (they no longer stack together it seems). Plus 2% cashback through Kiwiwallet and 1% through Dosh. That's my plan anyway.

    • I literally thought about this today as well after seeing that deal on OZ. Immediately, checked Dell NZ if we have something similar. Bought the refurb Philips 4k from other deal. Let's see how it goes. If I don't like it might have to wait for a deal on this Dell.

    • lucky you lol I also did the same - chatting to the Dell NZ rep, he wouldn't tell me anything!!! :D

Thanks for sharing the news - I will keep refreshing the page too!

    • nearly two weeks now!! I have been refreshing the page like you do ….
      fingers crossed.

I can get the Samsung G70B for as low as NZ$818 with ERP and 10% new user discount….but still hoping this Dell would end up cheaper.

      • Fingers crossed here still too - we'll see, I might have just been fobbed off with false assurances. Lots of businesses here have end of financial year at the end of June so we'll see. The Ozbargain thread is good reading - seems like the G3223Q is end of life so definitely should expect it to go on sale here. Lots of DOAs over there so I intend to order 2 to be safe.

I too have been eyeing up the Samsung EPP - the Neo G7 mini LED is tempting but I really don't want a curved screen I think

  • I feel like ever since that mishap with the monitor sale, they’ve reduced the ‘rrp’ of their monitors and havent really done any sales.

  • Feel like NZ is being left out. These last few weeks I've seen decent Dell deals in Australia, Germany and the UK.

  • They’re probably being careful with their sales after the Aussie federal court dished out a big loss for misleading advertising a few weeks ago.

Things like listing an item as heavily on sale when you’re in the checkout process if you “buy one, limited time offer” but actually just charging full price or more.

Dell is now forced to refund monitors to any effected customers back to 2019.

So I’m sure any future marketing and sales will be a bit more conservative for a while now
