Your MarketClub+ Membership is Changing

Hi there,
We’re just getting in touch to let you know that our partnership with One New Zealand is coming to an end on 30 June 2023.

During this partnership, you were able to redeem a free MarketClub+ membership through One NZ Rewards – which you did. Unfortunately, with this partnership ending, you are no longer eligible for this free MarketClub+ membership.

Since we know the awesome-ness of free shipping, we’re gonna let you keep your MarketClub+ membership on us for one more year! That means free shipping until 30 June 2024 and there’s absolutely nothing you need to do to get it.

And as a final hoo-rah, One NZ are giving you a chance to win a $1000 shopping spree with us. Check it out below!

  • Was just about to post this and then it suggested a duplicate may already exist, ha!

Interestingly my email didn't contained anything about a chance to win a $1000 shopping spree.

    • Interesting; mine did:

      “….do to get it.

And as a final hoo-rah, One NZ are giving you a chance to win a $1000 shopping spree with us. Check it out below!”

    • I didn’t either but I’m guessing it’s a link to this:
      https://www.cheapies.nz/node/40814

    • Got it on a different account. By the look of things, emails that say that their membership ends this June do not get the competition link, whereas memberships that end June 2024 do.

Do some people definitely have their membership ending this June? I thought this, but after seeing the comments here I went back and reread the email and it turns out that I do in fact have free membership till June 2024 (and no competition link). I read it too quickly when it first came in and missed this part. Also, when everything is in bold type face, nothing is!

Yeah another nail in the coffin for using The Market

Betting the $20 referral is going next

    • It'll become "$20 after they place their first order over $50" or something.

    • Looks like you are right as of today

      • Glad I used it for the last time 3 days ago. Good bye The Market.

      • dang to late to buy today's lotto ticket 🤣

Hammers another nail onto the coffin

        • Maybe just smart.
No one got Powerball tonight so even more up for grabs next week.

          • @bigcheese: online lotto is closed 😭

Well all thats left is to do increase membership fee and shipping costs in the market and it becomes a complete failure for consumers.

    • Never really understood the appeal of it, given a huge chunk was just online Noel Leemings etc.

Thanks for the heads up as I haven't seen the email, was worth the $1 sim card at pbtech to get it though.

I don't understand what on earth twg is doing, merging stationary in to the warehouse at least made financial sense, but why does the market even exist now when all of the items are now listed on the warehouse site? They are now almost the same thing online. I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see it shut up shop at some point. Had some great deals on there over the years. It could have become a locally owned amazon competitor now that mighty ape got sold off but seems like a huge waste if money that isn't going anywhere or offering anything.

    • From them recently:

      'TheMarket.com made a loss of $16.0 million in FY23 H1, compared to a loss of $12.0 million in FY22 H1. '

…. how?… It doesn't help that they've marketed it so poorly. It doesn't look trustworthy / it looks overseas, there's no nz branding on the main page etc… The appeal is that their platform should drive really good sales… they do have effective social media auto ads etc… but as a customer… why even bother?

If I had to guess offering 10% off everything adds up to a lot of lost revenue. Prices seem consistent with retailers own sites so who knows how much or if they are charging retailers to use the platform as a front end. Add staffing and covering the postage costs for all the market club nembers on top and it adds up quickly.

The codes made sense, drive traffic, build a profile and sell it to more retailers to build a marketplace. But ultimately as they are basically a third party onseller (they don't even drop ship) a lot of people just view them as a layer of complexity when, anything goes wrong so prefer to go directly to the retailers. I think it had promise merging all of twg and other sellers in to one location but the lack of holding any stock at all causing inconsistent delivery costs and times. They then significantly blurred the lines between the warehouse and the market by naming the warehouse loyalty scheme the market club then selling third party products on the warehouse website, they have completely undermined their own business.

I have seen 30% thrown around, but that seems absurd. The best public data I could find with a morning-tea google is 15-18% from a uk gov site of all things.

And wow, you're right.. the marketclub code isn't even in the market app, its in the warehouse app? It must be deliberate though, surely… One would think that they wouldve done a rebrand like facebook to meta and introduced meta club for all of their brands.

Genuinely quiet woeful times to be a warehouse group investor.

The free shipping was literally the only thing that made using the market worthwhile.

There will be literally no reason for me to visit the site from next June.

The site is not good enough to even consider paying for the membership.

    • Agree with the shipping.

But back when they had 5/10% sitewide, you could stack that on top of already 'on special' prices. For example a TV would be on special at Noel Leeming, and you could get an extra 5/10% on top of that. I thought that was quite good

      • Yeah true, but I found Noel Leeming often wouldn't put their specials on The Market

    • I think with Amazon AU offering free shipping to NZ the Market is now pointless… Why would you pay a membership fee for this service? Does it give free bulk delivery that might make it worthwhile)? Can't remember the last time I actually used the Market…

      • No, bulk shipping is on top and generally more than the retailers bulk shipping

        • That's what I thought. Free shipping over certain amount spend was their USP… Amazon AU has taken that away from them. Now if the discount vouchers were larger and more frequent that might be a different story.
