Rock Auto USA - Heads up The Prices Are Very Good

Just a heads up on Rock Auto. I guess some of you have heard of it. I"ve used them twice to order Spark Plugs. Having checked the cost to replace my Spark plugs from Repco Rock Auto has been less than 1/2 the cost. Oh and these are Iridium plugs now last seen on Repco at $65 each. Rock Auto cost me $101 for 4 plugs - and that includes delivery, gst, etc . The last ones I got took SIX days to arrive from the day of order. I'm impressed. Do your research if you need parts so you get the right ones. My personal experience has been good.

I'll be buying again from them

  • Yeah I have used them before a few years ago and I agree, great price and good shipping times. I'd use them again in a heartbeat if I needed any vehicle hardware

Just to refresh this for the Cheapies. A few minutes ago I received my latest order from Rock Auto. Made the order on 16-08-23 delivered to my door on 21-08-23 from 14,000Km away. And that wasn't with the 'expedited delivery' either ! This time I got two air filters, one each for my two cars. These filters are normally $74 at Repco. Rock Auto they were NZ$ 16.07, (I coulda got them for about $9 but wanted to go 'mid range as such). With shipping it was just a couple cents over $81 delivered in total.

I seriously recommend these guys for any auto parts. The search function on their site is very good also. Makes finding what you want really easy.

I've bought a couple things from them this year total cost $181 landed at my door. If I'd bought them locally that would be $408 ……………Get smart Cheapies and get on it.

  • Looking for recommendation for a socket set to try & attempt spark plugs myself? Is a torque wrench necessary?

    • Last time I changed plugs I just used a socket set (borrow one from a friend if you don't have one).

However, that was likely at least fifteen years ago, and long before all vehicles seemed to move over to Mr Fusion or whatever it is these days. Maybe they don't need sparks anymore!

    • You don't need a set. Check what size your plug are (in the manual) and purchase the correct size plug socket.

No, you don't need a torque wrench - you're only just going over finger tight. The plug socket will be plenty.

Get the thinnest walled plug socket you can find. The gap is small on many engines. Too small for a normal socket in many cases. A normal socket is also not long enough (the whole top.of the plug needs to fit inside it remember).

You will need some feeler gauges too.

The worse you can do is drop something in the cylinder (don't), or cross thread the plugs (also don't - fingers only till you are sure).
