You mean Costco has a promo on Eneloops?
A rebate is a partial refund.

    • +1

Costco calls their specials or discounted prices, rebates or instant rebate.

      E.g. $100 less instant rebate $50=$50

      • Whenever you see "instant rebate" make sure you take a picture of the price label, and make sure they charge that price at the checkout. And check the receipt before leaving.

I've seen Costco "forget" to charge the instant rebate price.

        • That seems to be happening quite frequently. Also, same product but they only do instant rebates on one of the flavours and not others (other retailers do that too).

  • I presume this comes with Basic charger too. Been waiting for good deal on the eneloop pro bq-c55 fast charger.

    • +1

Rather recommend nitecore or similar multi purpose chargers.

  • They promise half as many recharge cycles but I bought a bunch of these the other day when I found it a nightmare to get AAA rechargeables (all the shops stocked Energiser only, and they had price tags for AAAs but only had AAs in stock).

    https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/BATPHS21280/Philips-R03B2RT…

    2 pack Philips 800mAh AAAs, $3.40.

They also had 2100mAh AAs at one point but sold out now.

    6 packs (12) with no charger = $20.40.

    • Do you know if Philips AAAs are compatible with Energiser charger?

      • +1

you could but i wouldnt recommend the energiser charger, i found out it made my batteries very hot while charging so the lifespan was worse so i got a slower charger.

      • +1

        Yes they are

  • Can't we price-match/beat elsewhere?

    • +1

Not normally. Price match terms at most stores exclude trade pricing, membership group pricing etc

    • No harm trying

Throw the charger out and get a better one from china.

    • Hey, can i please aks what you mean? Is the included one not great?

      • I have the same charger, and got a liitokala, the new one is way faster/better.

      • I have it and it's fine, just takes ages to charge a set of AA's. Will stick them on in the evening and they can still be charging 24 hours later. I've got enough sets that I don't need them urgently so waitings not an issue, but it's a long wait if you need the things.

        • +1

24hrs? It only takes me about 3 hrs to fully charge 2x AA 2450mah Eneloops with a cheap Chinese charger.

          • @Vic: It might be done sooner, from Scotts comment below it might just be not turning off even though they are done. Can't say I'd find the homework in it and might get a different charger if this one is that bad.

        • Its a dumb charger. Dosn't stop when the batteries are full. It keeps overcharging them untill the timer runs out. Pritty bad for the health of your batteries.

          • @scott: This, generic NiMH chargers just have a preset 12/24 hours at fixed voltage with low current. The batteries dump it as heat when they're full.

I have a variant of one of these (there's lots of "brands"), does both NiMH and Lithium Ion cells, ramps up voltage over time (which has helped me recover a few batteries that were significantly undervoltage) and detects the voltage of the cells so it knows when they're charged and can stop.

            https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002605163747.html?spm=a2…

Link goes to the Lithium Ion only option, I don't know how to change that, the NiMH and Li-ion one is the one on the left, D4.

            • +1

@danvelopment: I have the exact same one as D4, just branded as Astrolux from Banggood. It has been working very good. One of the main benefit is that it has 3 diff inputs, micro-usb, usb-c & lightning port.

              • @ace310: Pretty much, and you're also able to have it on your desk or an easy access surface. Rather than having to fish around where the power points are installed (that are usually at a premium) whilst USB ports are everywhere.

Can even charge them off your TV if you really wanted to.

Be warned that charger (cc51 i think) sucks badly.

Not only is it super slow, and only able to charge in pairs, but it is compeltly dumb. Will just keep overcharging your expensive cells untill its timer runs out….

Eneloop cells are great, but well worth treating right with a good charger.

I have the common 4 bay smart rapid charger (good, but perhaps a little fast), and an 8 bay eneloop / panasonic charger i brought froun europe via ebay.

  • While we're on the topic of Costco, they also have chia seeds at $10 for 1.5KG

    • So far, that round of cheese clearance was probably the best, I've heard of people who bought some 50kg+ of cheese to freeze…haha

      • +1

Yes my friend did that and i got a few, i don't know how to explain it but it's not like nz cheese when it ages, it gets sour and it's best melted.i was glad when i finished it so i can go back to nz cheese which had age similar to tasty then.

        • Was that the Monterey Jack or Sharp Cheddar? I still have a block of the latter in my freezer.

I quite like their cheese slices, they go very well in burgers.

          • @Plug: the Monterey Jack is what i got last, i bought the cheese slices expecting to eat them straight like nz cheese variant but i found them too satly, so they had to be melted on a burger then it taste great. the sharp cheddar is at rebate for $10 right now.

    • Scratch that, it's back to its normal price of $22
