The Market Not Doing Discount Codes Any More?

Hello. Is it just me or has The Market not done any discount codes for a while now?

It's Easter Long Weekend and I can't remember a time where they haven't had some sort of discount code running.

I might actually have to shop elsewhere :D

came to chepies to ask the same question. Want an item form the warehouse but was hoping to stack the discount.
Cant even get the warehouse stationary welcome10 to work :(

    • WELCOME10 for Warehouse Stationery hasn't worked since the beginning of the year.

In regards to The Market, there are definitely less codes so far this year than last.
I'm sure they will still do them but who knows when.

Am guessing a $12mil loss from The Market, for The Warehouse Group, might have a part to play.

      Cheapies FTW!

  • Apart from those discount vouchers, was there any other reason to use The Market? Genuine question!

    • Free Shipping for MarketClub+ members with a $45 spend.

    • The Market is not just TWG stuff - they have other retailers selling through there too.

      • But that stuff is now also in the warehouse app. I can't say I understand their rationale of having a marketplace selling a shops stuff then that shop also selling the marketplaces stuff but it is what it is I guess. Then they have the market club at the warehouse and the market club plus on the market.

In short, it's confusing as hell.

        • In short, it's confusing as hell.

I don't think you are the first, nor will you be the last, to make that comment :-)

        • Haha they don't seem to want to save costs and streamline. Just add costs and confusion.

        • Throw in Marketplace (Facebook) and there are some very confused older folks in my family

    • Good discovery to buy through other stores.

  • You can still get the $20 refer a friend coupons. All the friend has to do is sign up, they don't have to order anything.

  • I wonder if they'll dump it entirely. It doesn't seem to have caught on

    • Can't see why you'd want to use it tbh. Can't click and collect expensive stuff… No price advantage over the stores themselves without the coupons.

Imo they did a really poor job marketing it… The site feels sterile and something feels not-100% genuine about it (maybe it's all the 'premium brands' lol).

It'd the warehouse groups big thing, my uneducated guess is that they'd look to replace the warehouse / NL /t7 with it long term and probably merge those stores too. Yuck.

    • I suspect it was their attempt at competing with Amazon when there were rumours they'd come to NZ. It's basically the same concept but poorly thought through. Really needs logistics warehouses and decent delivery to be of any benefit. Would be interesting to know what % cut TWH group takes when they sell on behalf of other stores/brands.

      • I agree - it has all the indications that it was a knee-jerk reaction.

I know someone that was quoted 30% 'commission' to sell via The Market (not too long after it was launched), but they didn't go any further as it would not have been worth it, so no way of knowing if they would have dropped that rate to actually secure a deal if pushed. I have no idea what Amazon charges these days.

        • At 30% you've got to wonder how they have lost $12m from it in a year. That's either a lot of promotional activity, development activity or very poor mgmt.

          • @mpc: And / or not much in the way of sales via third parties.

Also, it is possible (seems likely) they have done deals (and probably trending better and better deals as they get more desperate) at less than 30% in order to get third parties onboard.

        • I have also seen the 30% figure thrown around in places other than where Alan has said.

I would imagine that 30% is not for everyone, I don't think it's a stretch to imagine a world where some big brands (cotton-on are on there heavily) are at zero commission or even have some incentive in their favor.

  • They just sent me a code for $10 off $99 spend. Lame.

Thanks so much for shopping with us.

Hopefully you’re happy with your order, but if not our customer service team are here for you.

We’d love to see you back again - here’s $10 off your next purchase over $99.

Email was to an account I've used once.

    • And yet if you ‘refer a friend’ from that account you would get $20 off $99!
