Best Sub $500 Monitor for Gaming

I'm super out of the loop. Looking to get a new monitor in the sub $500 range, any recommendations? My graphics card is an RTX 3060 if that's helpful.

My googling has me looking at the AOC CQ27G3S 27" QHD 165Hz Gaming Monitor - Curved 1000R for $499 https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/MONAOC82705/AOC-CQ27G3S-27-…

  • Big questions are is this purely a gaming monitor or will you be using it for productivity to? Main reason I ask is kncr your soe ding that money something like an ultra wide is a great upgrade if you use it for office or creative work. Similarly a curved screen apparently isn't good if you do design work as straight lines aren't straight anymore.

How overkill would you like to go? I don't think a 3060 could power many modern games at 1440p and those refresh rates but it would mean if you plan to replace the gpu in a couple of years you have some headroom without the monitor holding your next gpu back from the start and forking out again to make it worthwhile.

    • Cat got your keyboard? Haha

  • Motion blur/ghosting might be a concern on va panels. Not too sure but worth doing some research, example.

A 3060 isn't going to handle triple A games at 1440p well. Maybe with dlss performance preset or something but will be arguably a worse experience due to image quality. Look at what games you want to play and maybe get 1080 instead. Even fps games that your GPU can handle at high fps are often preferred by pros on 1080p.

I'm currently playing a bit of Hogwarts legacy here and there and think I want a 32in screen. I'm getting 100+ fps no upscaling at 1080p(high or ultra I forgot).

  • This IPS 1440p 165hz from dell is a good deal at the moment.
