32" Android TV Need Advice

My only TV has died and my budget is a measly $250! Long story short I need a tv for my terminal father in law to watch TV as it's all he has left to entertain him. His nursing care takes up all my time so I can't search for something secondhand on Trade Me and all I know is I need a minimum of a 32 inch for his eyesight and it has to be an android tv or I'll have to fork out for a Chromecast too. DS have https://www.dicksmith.co.nz/dn/buy/smarttech-32-hd-led-smart… or https://www.dicksmith.co.nz/dn/buy/caixun-32-hd-led-smart-an… I've never heard of either company, I can't find anything useful on Google and while I don't normally care about brand names I'm frugal and don't want to throw money away if it's a lemon, I'd hate to have to do this again in 3 months - in saying that I can't imagine I'd need it to last me more than a year. Would anyone here touch either of these models?

    FFalcon SF3 32" HD Android TV [2022]

is a TCL with different name

    • Thanks for Ridd that I'll see if I can manage it - I take it TCL is a much better option brand (reliability) wise?

  • Hi, you could use facebook marketplace? Theres a big range of older 32" to 65" name brand plasma and LCD tvs on there for under $100 plus a new 4k chromecast $100ish which keeps within your budget. Could get a secondhand chromecast off marketplace as well.

    • Thanks BlackHT I hadn't thought of Facebook and while I'm so old school I'm only familiar with TradeMe I'll figure out how the marketplace works. I admit I'm a bit nervous to buy second hand hence the whole Dick Smith idea as at least there's a 12 month warranty to get me through the hard part

*edited as autocorrect stuffed up your name

  • Hey, are you in the Waikato by any chance? May have a solution

Hi OP, you can get a Factory Second KONIC 32" Smart Android TV Series 396 for $228 + $7 shipping. Comes with a 12 month warranty.

    • That'll fit the budget thanks TheDealMan anyone got any thoughts on how good they are I know it's a long shot for that price but I remember when I bought my current now broken Sony I was bitterly disappointed in the picture amongst other things and I thought buying a name brand would be guaranteed great TV

You're welcome! The main thing to note about most of the TVs at this size and price point have a resolution of 1366x768, including the KONIC 32" I've linked above and the ones from Dick Smith in the original post. Whether that will be acceptable is really a matter of personal preference. Resolution defines the number of pixels (dots) that make up the picture on your television. Most new TVs these days are 4k, i.e. a resolution of 3840x2160 (that's 3840 pixels horizontally, and 2160 pixels vertically). A step down from this is Full HD, with a resolution of 1920x1080. So a resolution of 1366x768 is a step down again. It might be worth a shot visiting a physical store and doing a comparison. I see that PB Tech have the 32" Konic on display. You might decide that a second hand Full HD TV is preferable.

That's excellent help TheDealMan I have no idea what resolution I had in the broken tv I just know he could see it ok with his very poor eyesight - I have a PBTech reasonably close by so will go and have a look at their Kogan. At least now I have some useful specs to go off as I have no idea about those sorts of things.

  • Where in Auckland are you?

  • I'm in Glen Eden

I have a 32" TV you can have, no charge, but it's been mounted on a wall bracket and I no longer have the base/feet for it. It's in perfect working order with remote if you'd like to pick it up from Albany. Would that suit?

  • Aw you're too kind CheapAzChips that's a very generous and totally unexpected offer I'm always amazed how good hearted everyone is on here! Unfortunately I'm mostly housebound now with him plus I'm trying to move us into another home where the shower/bathroom is more "end care friendly" so my time is consumed with packing and moving hence why I was thinking about buying one of those cheap tvs linked and just get it delivered. First world problems eh but thank you so much for the offer anyway.

    • No problem, I totally understand. If you change your mind, PM me and we can work something out. All the best for the move.

Thank you I needed that its an arduous task! On the positive I had a brainwave on finding my tablet downloaded the sky app and hey presto now I can give him some tv time I'm stoked as this will give me some breathing room.

Not bad for $269. Wrong image though. It's for the 32".
