USB-C Charging Cables

Hi Team
Looking for advice on getting some decent (but not expensive ) usb-c Charging cables

I've bought some cheaper ones from warehouse/kmart etc but they don't seem to connect very well or stay in the phone? They come out very easily.
Don't know if its coincidence or if its just they are budget.

Do the branded, more expensive cables somehow lock into the phone?

Would welcome any advice. Many Thanks

:)

  • You can generally find good value cables on Trade Me. The ones I've brought from various sellers there have all worked fine.

Although watch the shipping costs as that can push up the overall price.

Have you tried $2/variety stores? They'll have them, will be cheap but that shouldn't be a reason for them not to fit properly.

If not in hurry, I would recommend braided cables from Aliexpress from reputable sellers like Baseus, USAMS, pzoz, rock etc. Been using them for awhile and none of my usb-c has given up so far since couple of years.

    • Braided doesn't guarantee quality. I bought a crappy braided cable from AliExpress that has a dodgy plug and the wiring in the cable is poor quality. But if you find a good brand stick with it. I've found UGreen make really good quality cables, but they can be a bit more expensive.

      • Yes, agree. So said reputable sellers. Braided ones don't get tangle that much so you don't end up fighting with the cable which is what makes them break in most cases.

Yup, Ugreen is also one of the good ones. Have a ugreen usb-c dock and happy with it.

      • Agreed, I've got a UGreen 60W USB C cable and it's been solid (link below). Get the highest wattage cable you can (unless price dif is crazy) as new phones always have higher reqs for fast charging and more products are using USB C e.g. monitors are using them to connect more easily and reverse charging

    Agree with ace310

A bit of discussion here with some recommendations

    • Thanks. Forgot about that thread.

  • I can vouch for these cables… good quality and work for fast charging.

2m or 0.5m depending on your needs

    • Yup, I've got those exact cables too although I ordered mine from AliExpress as they were a lot cheaper and I was not in a rush to get them.

I got the same ones from Ali as well. Damn, $30 is a rip-off unless you are in a hurry.

Currently around $8+shipping. Buy multiple to save on shipping.

  • Have you tried other cables and they stay in your phone?

You should definitely try and make sure your charging port isn't full if crap before buying more cables. I've had issues with cables staying in the phone and every time it's been caused by lint in the port not the cable. A quick poke around with a pin cleared out a pile of fluff that had been contacted in there and sorted the cable right out.

Good suggestion to clean the port, but just a quick note on this, using a metal object to clean the charging port isn't a good idea.

Its one of those things that is "probably" fine until it isn't ie bridging 2 pins accidentally.

A plastic or wooden toothpick would be better than a metal pin

  • Bought some on Ali braided ones, I think i spent about $5 shipped 2m long.

    still works.

dont have high power charger though, so it's just 2A charging speed

  • I feel your pain OP! I got these to solve said issue from PB Tech: $6.99 - https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/MPPMOX00083/Momax-ZERO-USB-…

    • These are no good for fast charging. Really need USB-C to C cable with decent wattage. Fine for older phones.

  • I was having the same problem with charging my Samsung Galaxy S10, didn't come with a cable and the ones I had didn't stay in well and or didn't fast charge. I got 3 of these and they have been perfect so far, $7.38 with CSC discount (save $22.61). https://www.noelleeming.co.nz/p/endeavour-usb-c-1m-cable---o…

I just got the 100w Essager ub-c to usb-c cables from ali express

  • I got cheap cables from AliExpress and Samsung/Oppo and all of them have connection issues but I've found if you squash the metal part of the charger head (whatever that is called) then they work fine again. Just a gentle squeeze and it seems to connect better with the phone charger port again…
