Save $0.10 Per Litre Fuel at Mobil & Waitomo with KORA Fuel Card ($2/mo Membership Fee)

10
TL;DR

$2/month for 10c off per litre. Depending on how often one fills up, this may be worth it. For those who fill-up occasional and who can wait until Tuesdays to get Mobile Smiles 10c discounts, that would probably be better seen as >Free.

Meet KORA. The card that gives you fuel savings on every fill.

Put a smile on your face with a Kora fuel card. Save at least 10 cents a litre each time you top up – no matter how much or how often you use it. Simply top up and pay with your Kora fuel card at any Mobil or Waitomo station nationwide.

How it Works:

Kora makes fuel savings simple. Once your application is accepted, you’ll get two Kora cards - one for Mobil and another for Waitomo and you choose how you want to pay your Kora account, by direct debit from your bank account or credit card and how often; from weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

Simply swipe your Kora card at the pump or the counter and you're good to go. The more you fill up every month, the more you’ll save and those savings can really add up.

Cost

Kora membership costs $2 a month but remember that fee is usually covered by your first fill - easy.

  • Whats the catch?

  • Previous Kora discussion
    https://www.cheapies.nz/node/32957

Been mentioned in the forums since March but nothing worth reading.

    • Fair enough - I hadn't hear anything until recently (last week at the earliest) about Kora, thought it timely with the current fuel prices but does seem a bit "meh"

  • There are better discount schemes out there

    • For Mobil and Waitomo specifically? I know of SMILES for Mobil at the least which could eventually get you some savings using your points, otherwise it is 6c off each fill up.

      • I presume that you're not aware of Super Card? https://store.nzfarmsource.co.nz/partnerships/supercard

        • The only flipside is Super Card takes ages to verify your credit. I'm talking months. Yes, months. A friend of mine applied at the end of August and got contacted in mid-October to tell off that they didn't feel his application was strong enough and declined right out. Whereas the other friend got it and had to wait 2 months and 1.5 weeks after submitting the application.
If Super Card wants more customers then they need to arm up its technology and application process. It's not good to keep customers waiting and ghost them for months.
I personally wanted Super Card too but after hearing about the wait time. Noooooo!
I use Mobil Smiles and accumulate to $10 discount and use it all together on 10 cents a day off. It's a decent saving.

          • @Cheapiesquestion: I only use it for Mobil, I asked for $800 a credit limit and I don't recall having to wait a long time for it to get approved. Maybe ask for a relatively low credit limit when you apply?

            • @akrotohur: Yea I can give it a go but next year because If I apply now Xmas holidays will just add up the wait time.
Do they charge an admin/card fees? I 'vent seen it on their website.

  • Farmsource Super card is much better as there is no monthly fee and you get 16c off at Mobil (only 6c off at Waitomo but makes up for it given no fees). No annual fee or card fee either. We got approved relatively quickly, not months.
