Is this Grabone deal misleading?

So I purchased this $139 super supercar fast dash deal off Grabone as a Christmas gift:
https://new.grabone.co.nz/activities-events-outdoors/other-a…

It normally costs $199 so I thought it was a good deal but when I tried to book they told me I need to pay the difference of their normal price ($60)? I just thought the deals on Grabone are meant to be cheaper…?

Has anyone purchased this deal and can you please let me know if you paid additional because this hasn’t happened to me before with any other Grabone deals?

Thanks!!

That sounds well dubious. You are purchasing the item so you shouldn't have to make any further contributions, unless (for example) you upgraded - ie bought the lower priced option and wanted to subsequently do the more expensive one. Although I wouldnt be surprised if that just wasn't allowed at all. But asking you to pay the difference seems dodgy and defeats the purpose of buying through Grabone in the first place?!

Did you try to book it before the 1st of Jan when the offer starts at that price or on a public holiday when that pricing is excluded? Did you enter the coupon code on the booking site to apply the discount?

    That definitely is not right.
I would send an email to Hampton Downs outlining how you purchased a deal on Grabone and are then asking for clarifiication as to why you are being told to front up with more cash.
Doesn't mention anything about additional charges in the deal. Email is: [email protected]
That way at least you have something in writing and hopefully just a misunderstanding.
Probably worth going back to grabone too on their contact page and pointing out what's happened as well.

  • I tried to book for the 8th of Jan but the voucher box was still greyed out when I put in the coupon code. So I rang them up instead and the girl said she can help me book but the grabone price has nothing to do with them and I need to still pay the remaining balance.

      Hi OP,

I’ve just gone to the booking page for the selected experience and date and can enter a coupon/voucher code

I think you should try again, perhaps try a different browser if you’re still having issues

Thanks @ThatKiwiFella, I just tried to book online again and put in extra spaces after the voucher code. Looks like it didn’t have enough characters, but it’s working now!

Glad to hear you have it sorted!

  • Thanks @bigcheese! I’ve contacted Grabone so maybe I can get a refund!

hah Grabone, gotta watch out for those car maintenance deals as I was badly scammed some ten years ago. Live and learn I guess.

Grabone seem to be particularly dodgy about their deals. Click Frenzy was a complete repeat of their standard prices/deals and their 'sales' are often a repeat of their normal pricing.
