Mains Powered Bluetooth Speakers

I was pretty close to buying some Edifier 1700BT speakers last year when they were on sale for around $150, but this year they don't seem to be around as much. The best price this year is $198 from JB.

Are there any other similar brands I should be looking for? I'm looking for bang for buck somewhere around $150-200, must have Bluetooth, AV and be mains powered. Bonus points for a wireless link and optical input but that's probably out of the ballpark.

The model above those ones is the Edifier R1855DB

Its on sale at Amazon Australia currently for around $203 delivered plus international CC fees if applicable

The all time low was over a year ago for around $185 NZD delivered from catch.co.nz
Right now, by the time you pay for GST, conversion, and credit card fees it should cost you around $208 from Amazon which is still a good deal and well worth it over the 1700
Amazon does have the 1700BT and 1700BTS both on sale for under $200 delivered if you wanted to save a few dollars, but I'd say the extra for the 1855 is worth it

    • Nice, thanks! I hadn't noticed that one, I don't order much from Amazon but yeah I had seen that model and it is definitely worth the extra few dollars!

    • These any good for a home theatre cinema set up on a budget?

      • For $200 and brand new I’d say they are one of your best bets.
You run optical to your TV and all sound from TV and HDMI sources is fed back to speakers.
Downside is that you miss out on HDMI ARC so you control audio with a second remote but quality is far superior to a sound bar at this price.

Your alternative is second hand. For $200 you can probably pickup an old home theatre that supports HDMI ARC (1080p) and some passive speakers and end up with a better 5.1 used system.

The link above shows it cost $169.50. Not sure if this is a good enough deal for you.

    • Thats not too bad of a price. $9.99 shipping too, so comes to $179.49 delivered

Amazon have it for approx $196.05 shipped. I still think the extra $25 is worth it to get the 1855 model, but if money is tight then the catch pricing is fine

      • Yeah, I've gone with the 1855s, thanks!

  • assuming you have a stereo i guess you have already looked into the Logitech Bluetooth Audio Adaptor or Sennheiser?
i havent tried this but been thinking about it to use on my stereo,

    • No, no stereo at the moment so we were looking for good quality speakers with inbuilt amp and BT. I've gone for the 1855s suggested above, but thanks anyway!
