I'm not the best one to answer but a bit more information would probably help get some responses that meet your needs.
- What's your budget? If no limit then nachos answer above might be perfect for your needs.
- Desktop OK or do you need it to be portable like a laptop?
- Screen size?
- What software are you running / games are you playing?
I'm sure there are others. Just a start.

I'm also after something similar. I'm after a desktop in a similar price range. Already have a monitor. Plan to use the computer for day to day web browsing, photo editing, word processing and very rarely for gaming. I'm hoping for some good deals on Black Friday.

It always confuses me when people come in with an idea of what they want to pay for something that only needs to do the bare minimum. You could spend a few hundred on a computer from five years ago that will do exactly what you're after. Why does it need to be a desktop if you don't have any plans to continue building within the case?

I am a neanderthal when it comes to computers. If you're saying I could pay less than $1000 that's great! I don't want a laptop as I've already got one and in my experience you get more bang for buck with a desktop

id recommend dell, something like this should be able to handle that. Looks like you might save a buck on this deal too.
