Noel Leeming Being Cheeky

Noel Leeming is advertising a "Hot Price" item as an early Black Friday sale and I kid you not. The price is the exact same one for the past few months. I know because it's been on my wishlist.

Advertised as "Hot Price":

Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer Vinca Blue and Rosé

Exactly the same, different colour:
Dyson Supersonic Black/Nickel

Feel like calling them out but unsure of the best way to do it?

EDIT: The NL store on The Market has a 10% off on checkout but as you may know, it's a different place. No discounts on NL as such.

I think you just did - at least to the only people that really matter!

Its definitly worth calling that out. That is misleading advertising and it may be on purpose, it may just be an accident (yes, a dumb and avoidable accident)

I'd start by reading this as its a really good official government resource

You can raise a complaint to them directly, but if you have examples of repeatedly doing this, maybe worth skipping that step and going straight to a Commerce Commission complainthttps://comcom.govt.nz/consumers/make-an-enquiry-or-complaint

    • I probably will. I've saved screenshots, and after the Strandbags thing last week, I'd love to see it again 😂 thank you.

You know there are websites which will email you an alert when a webpage changes with the word sale or a change in price and does a screenshot in the email of the change automatically.
        I have used
https://visualping.io/ in the past which is great when you are watching for a price drop

        • That's great to know! Thank you ☺

  • email comcom if your interested. fake specials are misleading in their eyes, occasionally companies get fined then keep doing the same thing lol

    • Thank you. I've DM'd Consumer on twitter but I wonder if it's effective.

It just got me so annoyed. I mean, a few months ago, I had a bunch of prezzy cards and a Dyson straightener had dropped by $250 so I got it for peanuts price, really.

This has always been this price. Not that I was planning on buying one now but the nerve!

I'm surprised there are no journalist on this website, so many of them are on various FB groups…haha

They're leaving us with no choice.

    • Don't worry, they've plagiarised information from here in the past, they'd just make a list of "The best deals this Black Friday" and it'd be a direct copy.

Saying 'Hot price' isn't breaking any rules though - it would be if they were advertising a "Save XX amount" alongside but by itself… provided its competitive in the market they aren't breaking any rules.

I used to work in category management for a nationwide retailer and we did this constantly due to running so many promotions we could no longer show a 'save $ amount'. Our com com liaison never pulled us up on this - and I imagine a company the size of the WHG would also have a liaison to advise them on whats pushing the limits and whats going to get you slapped with a fine.

Its also why I find it funny with all these companies getting slapped so hard with fines… I'm my experience the commerce commission was happy to work with us - doing trainings, giving us examples of bad behaviour, warnings etc - rather than just "SURPRISE FINE MOTHERF******" - things have either changed a lot in the last 5 years or these retailers are just idiots.

    • Understand completely.

But just because they can it doesn't mean they should.

Hot Price where there isn't any is pretty lame to be fair.

    • Comcom liaison officer :)

  • Wow. I have been tracking that for a while now. And can say $649 is the regular price since long time. I was very tempted to buy it with 11% market coupon, but thinking black friday coming up might see how it goes.

    Pricespy agrees as well.

    • Got the straightener for $499 a few months ago (glad I had 400 bucks of prezzy cards I've been sitting on) so I've been interested in any discounts.

The problem is that this will carry on until new year sales now, I bet.

      • Oh well. 10% market coupons are pretty common so no regret on skipping 11%

        • Six dollars never killed nobody 😂 agree.

  • s9 FTA 1986

"No person shall, in trade, engage in conduct that is misleading or deceptive or is likely to mislead or deceive."

    • Obviously marketing teams interpret that differently.

I was notified because of the "hot price alert" on the app. Hot Price what?

That is why Cheapies is great !!! You know when a deal is actually a deal, not an image that been there since the begining of the product !

  • Cheapies is absolutely on the nl radar.

Didn’t help that a whole bunch of back of house items got listed here that apparently weren’t supposed to be known to the public and caused a lot of trouble.

I’d imagine this is more a mistake than anything.

  • Paknsave have "extra low" stickers on meats that are only 50 cents per kg lower than the standard price sometimes. Gets the automatic buyers of specials who don't do the math market

    • Basically, anyone who was mucking around in primary school maths lessons, which seems to have been most people :-(

  • Did ok in primary, girls were just strange annoying creatures and the teachers could smack us

  • I am getting 20% off at dyson.co.nz. Which brings Dyson Supersonic down to $519 shipped. What do you guys think?

Also, able to get Dyson v15 Detect absolute down to $1199.

    A good deal?
