Countdown Standard Uht Milk 1L $1.50 (Was $2) @ Countdown

80

Always thought UHT was supposed to be more expensive. But at this price cheaper than all fresh milks. Same unit price as the warehouse for their pasteurised. Thoughts on UHT? Doesn't seem like many downsides.

We always keep a UHT in the pantry.
Great for those times when you run out of fresh milk.
Lasts for ages and I don’t really notice any difference in taste.
    Good price at $1.50L

I definitely notice the taste difference. Tasty a lot more savory? And richer. I prefer it but always thought it would be inefficient for those who consume enough volume.

  • I got a few at that price to hit my $100 the other day. Taste wasn't the best but drinkable.

Quick look on Grocer, Meadow Fresh 1L is $1.49 at PNS Napier City. Could pricematch at The Warehouse.

$1.39 for Pam's 1L at certain PNS stores.

  • Odd that they have a special finishing mid-week, or did you just chuck in a random date? (can't find the details on phone browser).

    • Thought their weekly specials ends Friday. If it's Sunday, go ahead and correct it.

      • Will just wait until tomorrow and see if it's the same price or not.

Always keep a couple in the pantry as well.

If you have an instant pot you can use it to make yoghurt. You’ll need a tablespoon or two of fresh yoghurt per 1L UHT milk but you can then use that to make more yoghurt and repeat.

    • Why make it with uht? I make it with normal milk and it turns out fine?

      • The cold start (no boil) method for making yoghurt in the instant pot requires ultra-pasteurised milk. It’s as simple as pouring in the UHT milk, whisking in some yoghurt cultures and pressing the yoghurt button.
