Component to HDMI Converter Reccomendation?

Bought a component to hdmi converter. The signal is excellent but the picture cuts out every 15 seconds or so for a second. Hopeless.
Don't need an upscaling one, can anyone reccomend one that won't break the bank?
Thanks in advance

  • How are you powering the adapter? Have you tried plugging the power into a mobile phone charger? (assuming it uses usb for power)

  • Hi, yes it's powered by a cord that plugs into a usb.
It was only $30 I see they can go for over $300. So need some help with choosing a good one.
Do have some old phone charger adaptors though not sure it's a power supply problem. Could even be the TV doesn't 'like' the signal but fairly sure it's the cheap hdmi converter

I bought a heap of them trying to get a decent result out of my Wii. This one on AliExpress was the best one I found at a reasonable price.

That said, if the signal is cutting out regularly I would suspect your HDMI cable might be the problem. I have thrown away a LOT of junk HDMI cables over the years!

  • Thanks I will try a different cable and then will have a look at the aliexpress converter.
It's for my original xbox retro gaming if that makes any difference

I think the advice of trying a different (more powerful) USB power supply and swapping out the HDMI cable to be a good starting point before buying another converter.

  • Your a legend! Didn't know usbs had different outputs. The one it came with is a tiny 50 ma, have plugged it into a phone 0.5 amp USB and the picture isn't cutting out. It's working great thankyou!! Retro gaming is on for tonight at no extra cost, couldn't be a happier choice cheapie

  • Oh, for any cheapie fans looking. The koopman component to hdmi converter on trademe $29.50 works very well when plugged into a more powerful USB than the one it comes with
