  • Get a BNZ cc and get free travel insurance

    • I used ASB cc to pay for my ticket one time and it covered for insurance, however the excess was quite high, good to check the details to see whether you could reduce the excess

      • Would prefer a relatively low excess. And want to make sure it's an easy claim for anything medical

        • The excess on the platinum card is $200 - thats not that high depending on what you are claiming for. I have made claims in the past and its not hard at all, no different to any other insurance.

  • Second the credit card insurance - just double check theyre covering Covid. I've claimed on my Westpac Airpoints Platinum for travel no issues, and trip coming up will be on Amex, and they've confirmed they cover Covid.

  • Insurance Broker here - be careful with free CC travel insurance, often limited in terms of medical costs/repatriation. CoverMore is very comprehensive & relatively competitively priced as well.

    • Any thoughts on Southern Cross. Use them for medical insurance and never had a complaint, so thought they'd be a good option

      • Southern Cross we don't deal with but I've heard good things. Just be aware that skiing, hiking over certain altitudes & also be wary about scooter usage too (check policy wording)

  • Southern Cross is good as well. Had it for a recent trip and wife got sick. Got all the bills claimed without issues. Also, consider the max allowance with free CC insurance. Sometimes it is not enough for whole family, might be good for a couple.

    • Did you have to receive pre-approval?

      • No. Kept all receipts and submitted claim almost after a month of returning.

  • Have also claimed on CC insurance.

Mountain bike accident in Canada, covered medical, loss of deposits (bike rental, lift pass etc), broken helmet. $200 excess, no hassles, was Tower Insurance and I'm not a customer of theirs.

    • Easy claim process? Didn't even consider that the BNZ credit card would provide travel insurance

      • Yep real simple. From memory there was a free call number, the rest via email. Had to show where tickets were paid on Cc.

Sent through copies of invoices and were reimbursed pretty quickly. All staff very helpful.

        Cc is Kiwibank platinum.

  • I recently got travel insurance for Thailand through Zoom

They were by far the cheapest and about the same level of cover, good reviews

  • Consumer did a review of this recently.

Watch for covid inclusions, and what they will/won’t cover if you miss your flight due to covid etc.

Top tip if anyone gets cover for cruises, you can claim if due to weather you couldn’t make a stop like Milford sound etc.
