L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Laser Pure Retinol Night Serum (30ml) $33 @ Countdown

30

This serum contain 0.2% retinol, which is one of the most effective ingredient for anti-wrinkles. I really cannot find any retinol product at lower price.

However, 0.2% is a little bit high and irritating. Some people may need a week or two to accustom to it.

I don't know why they are not very popular in countdown. Does anybody have better serum choice?

This is available at The Warehouse for $46 so you could try a pricebeat and get another 10% off Countdown's price (making it $29.70). May be hard as they are doing a buy one get one half price offer.

However, if the pricebeat fails and you use it a lot you could buy two for $69 with the offer and then get another $5 off $50 in the App.
    Makes it $64 for two.

Anyone know how this compares to The Ordinary's retinol products? https://www.farmers.co.nz/beauty/boutique-brands/the-ordinar…

    • No idea - but it contains exactly the same 0.2% retinol at a significantly cheaper price.
I would say branding plays a very big part in the price difference.

Personally I'd go for the ordinary option, it's what I started with, plus you can work your way up to a higher amount. 0.2% is the lowest starting dose, so I find it funny the L'Oreal one markets itself as "potent".

An important difference however is the other ingredients. The L'Oreal one is described as a serum, while the ordinary is just pure retinol in squalane (an oil-like substance naturally occuring in our skin). So that may come down to preference. However there's also a million other brands available, and you can also get retinoid creams on prescription such as differin (milder and less irritating but still much stronger than OTC retinol) or tretinoin (stronger, can cause more irritation, but the most proven product for both aging and acne).

      • Thank you, draf and snowflake! I'm confused by these advertising words.
This is the first time I buy a retinol product. I really want to know whether The Ordinary's retinol product work. The product page said it should be used "after water-based serums but before heavier treatments". So it is different from a serum. We really need a chemist to explain the difference.
If The Ordinary's retinol product work, that would be a much better choice.

For differin and tretinoin, a few documents show that they should not be added in skincare products and medicine only
