ASB Visa Platinum Rewards Credit Card: $0.20/L AA Smartfuel or Visa Rewards Credit Card: $0.10/L AA Smartfuel Discount Each Week

70
  • Bonus AA Smartfuel discount of 20c/L each week for 12 months if you spend more than $50 during that week for signing up to a new ASB Visa Platinum Rewards Credit Card ($40 account fee every six months). The normal AA Smartfuel discount = every $50 spent you get 1c/L AA Smartfuel discount.

  • Bonus AA Smartfuel discount of 10c/L each week for 12 months if you spend more than $75 during that week for signing up to a new ASB Visa Rewards Credit Card ($20 account fee every six months). The normal AA Smartfuel discount = every $75 spent you get 1c/L AA Smartfuel discount.
Internal combustion engine car owners:

This means you can get up to $520 of fuel savings based on filling up 50L of fuel every week for 12 months (end of the promotion).

EV owners:

If you own an EV, you can redeem your AA Smartfuel rewards for Chargenet EV charge credit by swapping every $0.01c of AA Smartfuel rewards for $0.25 of Chargenet EV charging credit. This only equals up to $260 of Chargenet credit, however. So only 50% as good of a deal compared to redeeming it for petrol. Note that Chargenet credit never expires so good for EV owners that seem to always see AA Smartfuel discounts expiring every two months. Otherwise if you see yourself buying an EV in the future, you can transfer your reward over in anticipation if you always see your Smartfuel discounts expire. Also note that you can manually choose how much to transfer over to Chargenet credit or make it automated as soon as AA Smartfuel discounts are loaded on your account.

Main Ts & Cs

  • You must select AA Smartfuel rewards to recieve your bonus reward (not True Rewards dollars)
  • Your credit card fee must not be waived to qualify
  • If you have an existing ASB credit card, make sure you don't transfer the balance to the new Credit Card, otherwise you won't qualify (e.g. ASB Lisa Light Credit Card)
  • Offer is only valid for new credit card accounts opened 4 July 2022 until 31 August 2022
  • For the next 52 weeks following your new card being opened, you will earn the bonus AA Smartfuel discounts for each week that you spend at least $50 or more using your new ASB Visa Platinum Rewards or spend $75 or more using your new ASB Visa Rewards credit card
  • The spend can be across one or multiple purchases
  • If you qualify for a weekly bonus discount, that bonus will be loaded onto your AA Smartfuel account within two weeks

  • AA Smartfuel bonus discounts are redeemable on up to 50 litres
  • Spend criteria applies to purchases for goods and services only and excludes cash advances or transactions treated by ASB as quasi cash advances

  • Will the discount of 20c/L accumulate? for example 20cents * 4 weeks = 80 cents
Will I be able to redeem 80 cents at the month end?

Answer on the page if you click the link…

Is there a limit to the AA Smartfuel discounts that I can accumulate?
No. However, if you accumulate more fuel discounts than the pump price per litre you will lose the over-accumulated amount as your balance is cleared to zero every time you redeem. For example, if you accumulate a $2.20 per litre fuel discount but only pay $2.00 per litre at the service station, the extra 20 cents per litre discount will also be cleared from your card.

I find it hard to trust that statement as accurate and up to date.
When was the last time anyone paid $2/L for petrol

        • You can accumulate.

  • Awesome thanks for sharing. Will swap out my free visa (that has no benefits atm) for this one temporarily!

Just make sure you don’t do a balance transfer or you won’t qualify!

  • Anyone able to find income requirements for the platinum card?

    • I don’t think there is one, just a lengthy online application form.

    • It used to be $50K a few years ago when I first applied this card but not sure now. Maybe they removed the income requirement.

    • As part of the application process, looks like $30k

    RIP to existing card owners.

    • Looks like they stopped the one year fee free now and replaced with this.

IMO one year free is MUCH better than 20c off fuel ;)

      • +2

        Really? Fee = $40 ×2 = $80 p/a. Potential fuel bonus = 20c x 50L x 52wks = $520

      • Have to disagree with that from an objective $ value perspective

  • Do the bonus 10c/L apply even if you convert your card, or is it only for new card applications?

    Actually, it's not.

Offer is not available for customers who hold or have held an ASB Visa Platinum Rewards or ASB Visa Rewards credit card account in the past 12 months, transfers from an existing ASB credit card account, open a new ASB Visa Business Rewards or in combination with any other offers. Spend criteria applies to purchases for goods and services only and excludes cash advances or transactions treated by ASB as quasi cash advances. Applicable for one card per customer only.

  • Does anyone know if they have any other sign up deals on at the moment? I was looking at getting one of the platinum cards, but i already get decent fuel savings through work (and don't drive that much) so wonder if there are any other potential deals?

    • If you are not after fuel discounts, there is no way to get these ASB credit cards. Get the BNZ platinum card like me, every $90 spend get $1 cash back. The best cashback card on the market at the moment.

      • Yes, BNZ Cashback is good if you don't want AA Smartfuel discounts.

  • Curious. If I spend $50 in a week on the platinum card, do I get 1c for meeting the minimum spend PLUS 20c bonus = 21c, or does the 20c replace the current reward of 1c per $50 spend? Hope that makes sense…

    • I was wondering that too. Either way 20c or 21c it’s a good deal.

$2600 spend with $440 fuel savings = 16.9% reward rate

    • Yes it is a bonus, so you get another 20c or 10c on top of the usual 1c.

  • I would

    A) Get a AMEX Airpoints cards if you want rewards.
    B) Shop somewhere else for petrol, since most places are far cheaper than BP, even with the "Discount".

    • Fair points. But I'd argue that stacking AA smartfuel discount blows other places (that have a lower at-the-pump price) out of the water

  • Anyone had any luck getting their ASB platinum card annual fee waived? Had mine waived last June for taking out a home loan. Not sure what I could ask this year. Thanks.
