Kogan Plan Coming to an End

Hey everyone

Just wondering what my next best options are as the Kongan 15gb 365 day plan is finishing in 2 months.

  • It depends on what you are wanting out of a phone plan.
Are you a heavy data user?
Do you use phone minutes, txt a lot?

Kogan is often one of the cheapest but still has limitations such as (almost) non-existent customer support, limitations on SMS premium codes.
Have you been happy with Kogan for the past year?

Other providers like Spark can offer discounted spotify, Vodafone has Vodafone Rewards and access to MarketClub+ free shipping on The Market.

Been very happy with Kogan. It uses Vodafones network. The only problem is the network coverage at my workplace is rubbish but that was my call before I switched over. Im very happy with the deal otherwise. I dont care for customer support as I have never called them.

In that case I would change to Skinny as per what geardropper is doing in the interim and then port back to Kogan when a deal comes around.

  • My plan is to go back to skinny untill the plan with kogan comes back

    • It's also a really good idea to that - even if you like Kogan, for at least a month.
That way you can not only take advantage of any new customer offers with the likes of Skinny but you will then be a new customer again when you port back to Kogan.
Sometimes the deals don't apply to existing customers so this gets around that.

  • I’m in the same boat OP. I was hoping that Kogan would offer the same again soon.

      They will - always do.
There will either be a half price offer or buy one get one free.
If your plan is due to finish just change to Skinny or one of the other providers in the interim and then swap back when the deal comes round.

Just a warning to everyone on the kogan plan. Make sure auto renewal is off, there will be a enable auto renewal button if it is off. Otherwise, it will bill you for another year at full price.

    • Yes definitely check this.
I have even noticed the auto renew turned on again after I know I had turned it off on my kids phone plans.
To be sure you could always purchase the plan with something like a Wise card so you can delete the card after purchase just to be sure.

    • thank you for this, just checked mine and auto-renewals were on.

      • No problem. Hope not too many people get unexpectedly billed. I was able to get my card removed from the system by contacting live chat once it was working. But, iirc they have to submit a ticket since they don't have access to do it and aren't keen on doing it.

Might just use a virtual wise card for my next koganmobile purchase. Can easily delete that

  • I have dual sim.

My ex bought a plan for me which over rode my 365 plan with 3 months left. So I just bought the $5 new customer sim 15gb and use that. It works with dual sim rather easily somce I don't really care about keeping the same number lol.

However most people will so a work around would be to purchase a $5 sim of another provider, activate that, transfer your number to them get the $5 kogan new customer plan than transfer the number back. I don't believe they register the number they just reconise the provider change when bringing your number across.

    • Would the Kogan plan still work after transferring the number back though?

  • Just a FYI, I tried to purchase the new customer 15gb sim deal at Kogan the other day and it said the deal expired, however I tried again just now and it worked so it looks like they renewed the deal which is great news.

Yes they updated this only a few days ago.
      The wording is now:

Offer is available on Kogan Mobile $5 Starter Pack purchased before 11:59pm NZDT 30/11/2022 unless sold out prior. Vouchers expire at 11:59pm NZDT on 31/12/2022.

So effectively available for the rest of the year.

      • So I am looking for the Half price Large deal as I use lots of data. Are you saying this is available at discounted rate?

        • Not at the moment.
The 15GB of data I mentioned for $5 is for new connections and valid 30 days only.
After that it reverts to the standard $35 per month.
