Hi everyone, I'm looking for an electric shaver. Anything that works well and has a good life expectancy. Would appreciate your experience. Thanks.

Yes, I think thats the standard/base model shown here on the Philips site…

I'm not sure about the differences of the different types as I got mine out of the UK about 4 years ago before Oneblade was available here

NiMH battery, so I'd avoid that one. The one in the Philips link has li-ion

Thanks. I didn't even know to watch out for such details!

@sunshinenz: NiMH is cheaper but is slower to charge and degrades at a faster rate. Lithium ion is pretty much looked at as the standard these days

@Plug: Thanks. I knew about the difference between the two types of battery, but I had no idea I should watch out for battery type when looking for an electric shaver. So many things to learn about!

blades are to be replaced every four months though
- 0

Oh, really? Is that about the normal frequency for electric shavers?

mine is a rotary philips one, and it says 3 years replacement. not really sure about the average lifespan. I also read (when I was looking at the philips one blade) that the plastic attachment that holds the blade is really crappy and breaks constantly. I believe this was on the philips website.

I guess it depends how often you use it. I'm a once a week guy, letting it get mildly/fairly stubbly before a shearing.

Thanks. The intended user shaves every other day.

@sunshinenz: Just change the blades if and when it needs it - pretty obvious usually and if you can't tell it needs changing, then it probably doesn't.
The manufacturers will tell you to swap them frequently of course - bit like a shampoo manufacturer telling you to wash your hair twice!

I'm a head shaver and I've been using a Philips S9111 for about 7 years and it still works brilliantly.
I've replaced the cutters a few times, spare ones are available from Ali Express for about$12 plus get and delivery. If the S9111 is no longer available I'd go with whatever the current equivalent is. They're bloody brilliant.

Yep, almost identical. The head unit comes right off to clean.
I use these spare heads.

Thanks. So many things for me to learn. At first I thought you shaved your head when you said you were a head shaver, LOL.

@sunshinenz: "head shaver" still comprehends as some who shaves their head to me. Inferring it is regarding the head unit seems implausible. I imagine rotary shavers are very good for the head as they contour and cut thick hair better than foil. And are very quick and easy to use.

@sunshinenz: No you were right. I use it to shave my head and face. I'll use it 5 times a week to shave my head for about 15 minutes at a time so the durability is pretty impressive.

Had Phillips and Braun shavers since old enough to shave and most crap out after a few years so thought I would try something different. Searched and reviewed and came up with this, SweetLF.com. Best razor I have had, plenty of youtube reviews that swung it for me and price was great. Bought from Amazon for about $60 but found it cheaper on Aliexpress after, had for 3 years now and still good as when I first got it.

Thanks. This one? https://www.amazon.com/SweetLF-Rechargeable-Waterproof-Elect…
Is it really identical to this?

Yes looks like the one, I paid around $60 all in from Amazon a few years ago and found on ali cheaper after. All reviews I saw were good.

Same model number so my guess is yes. Only 7 orders on Aliexpress seems a bit odd.

Thanks. I didn't see the model number from the Amazon link before. The Amazon price is over $100 NZD all up.

Which one did you go with in the end?
Would be keen to hear how it goes.- 0

I have a Philips Norelco Oneblade and only shave once using it, I then use a disposible razor after it.
I am thinking of going 'old school' and trialing a safety razor.- 0

For me, I only buy the ones that are wet & dry - not that I use it in the shower, but because it makes keeping it clean trivial (you just detach the head piece, and run it and the main body under the tap for a few seconds).
Much better than trying to shake / brush / blow the dust out, but I am lazy :-)

I bought this just over a year ago and wow it's amazing

More than I originally wanted to spend (got discount with farmlands card), but absolutely worth it. The battery lasted 1 year before needing to be charged (used 1-2 times per month)
